The Government has approved a £1.4m bid for the creation of a unique aerospace ‘supplier village’ on the former Michelin site. The announcement made on 19TH October, by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, as part of the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, will create a logistics hub and attract manufacturing ‘supply chain’ businesses to the former Michelin Site, generate £7m of private sector investment and create up to 150 jobs. The private sector led bid which was submitted by Aircelle Ltd, and developed in partnership with Burnley Council, will create a dedicated Aerospace Supply Chain Logistics Park adjacent to the Aircelle plant in Burnley. The thrust of the bid is to increase efficiency and capacity within the aerospace supply chain. Aerospace supply chains in the UK are coming under increased pressure as demand for civil aircraft from the developing economies continues to rise. The Aerospace Supply Chain Logistics Park will mobilise the supply chain of Aircelle, a global leader in the nacelle market supplying to companies such as Airbus, Bombardier and Rolls Royce – by creating a logistics framework to bring together and enhance SMEs within their supply chain.
