Rolls-Royce wins order from CIT to power 23 aircraft

Rolls-Royce has won an order from US leasing company CIT Aerospace for Trent XWB engines, to power ten Airbus A350 XWB aircraft and Trent 700 engines to power 13 Airbus A330 aircraft. The Trent XWB engines will power ten CIT A350 aircraft that were announced in January 2013 which were in addition to five A350 XWB aircraft already on order. The Trent XWB, specifically designed for the Airbus A350, is the fastest selling Trent engine ever, with more than 1,200 already sold. The engine variant that will power the A350-800 and -900 was awarded European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification in February. The engine will power the first flight of the Airbus A350 XWB this year and the aircraft’s first in-service flight in 2014.
Boeing launches 787-10 Dreamliner

Boeing announced at the 2013 Paris Air Show that it has launched the 787-10 Dreamliner, the third member of the super-efficient 787 family. Commitments for 102 airplanes from five customers across Europe, Asia and North America provide a strong foundation to support development and production of the newest Dreamliner. Customer launch commitments for the 787-10 include Air Lease Corporation, with 30 airplanes; GE Capital Aviation Services, with 10; International Airlines Group / British Airways, with 12 subject to shareholder approval; Singapore Airlines, with 30 and United Airlines, with 20 airplanes.
The new 787-10 will fly up to 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) — covering more than 90% of the world’s twin-aisle routes — with seating for 300-330 passengers, depending on an airline’s configuration choices. The second member of the family, the 787-9, is in final assembly in Everett, Wash., and is set to make its first flight later this year. Design of the 787-10 has already started at Boeing, and international partners will be involved in detailed design in the months ahead. Final assembly and flight test of the 787-10 are set to begin in 2017, with first delivery targeted for 2018.
Eurocopter’s EC145 helicopter to strengthen the Namibia Police Air Wing

Namibia’s Ministry of Safety & Security has ordered a Eurocopter EC145 to expand the capabilities and reach of the Namibia Police Force’s (NAMPOL) Air Wing. This new twin-engine helicopter will complement Namibia’s existing fleet of Eurocopter Ecureuil AS350 B3s in providing comprehensive multi-mission civil protection capabilities in one of Africa’s largest countries. Manufacture of the rotary-wing aircraft will commence soon at Eurocopter’s Donauwörth facility in Germany, where it will be fitted with airborne law enforcement and rescue equipment. The helicopter is scheduled for delivery to NAMPOL in September 2012.

EADS EFW delivers youngest A300-600 to be converted to a freighter to Maximus

EADS EFW in Dresden, Germany, delivered the youngest airbus passenger plane ever to be converted to a freighter, an A300-600, to Abu Dhabi-based customer Maximus. The delivery represents the first out of three A300-600 conversions for Maximus in 2011.

AWAS delivers Boeing 767-300ER aircraft to new customer GMG Airlines

AWAS has delivered a Boeing 767-300ER widebody aircraft to its new customer, GMG Airlines of Bangladesh. GMG Airlines, owned by the industrial conglomerate Beximco, started operations on April 6, 1998. It began with domestic services and launched international flights in September 2004, with flights between Chittagong and Kolkata.
Boeing completes acquisition of Solutions Made Simple

Boeing has completed the acquisition of Solutions Made Simple Inc. (SMSi), an information services provider for the U.S. government and the Intelligence Community. Boeing announced its agreement to acquire SMSi on July 21. SMSi now operates within the Information Solutions division of Boeing’s Network & Space Systems business.
Delta and Aeromexico create enhanced commercial alliance

Delta Air Lines and Grupo Aeromexico announced a tentative agreement for a long-term, exclusive commercial alliance. Under the agreement, Delta and Aeromexico will expand cooperation to leverage each other’s strengths and link Delta’s expansive network with Mexico’s largest passenger network. As part of the agreement, Delta also will invest $65 million in Aeromexico. Following a successful restructuring in 2009 and subsequent public stock offering, Aeromexico has reported strong financial results, including its highest operating margin in 15 years at 10.4% for the June quarter 2011.
GOL receives 737NG with improved engine performance

GOL took delivery of its first Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft with CFM56-7BE engines, which were developed with turbine pressure changes and other improvements that reduce drag, reducing friction of the aircraft with the air, cutting fuel consumption up to 2% over the currently-used CFM56-7B1 engines.
SIA to order eight more Boeing 777-300ERs

Singapore Airlines has agreed to order eight more Boeing 777-300ERs to support growth plans for the years ahead. Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled to begin in the 2013/14 financial year. They will be operated by Singapore Airlines on medium and long-haul routes. Powered by General Electric GE90 engines, the aircraft will join 19 B777-300ERs already in service. The order is valued at $2.3 billion at list prices.
Boeing, Cathay Pacific announce order for 12 777s

Hong Kong-based carrier Cathay Pacific Airways has ordered eight Boeing 777 Freighters and four 777-300ER (extended range) airplanes. The order is valued at $3.3 billion at list prices. With this announcement, Cathay Pacific becomes the 15th customer to order the 777 Freighter and increases its Boeing 777-300ER fleet to 50.
DVB Group posts marked increase to consolidated net income for first half 2011

DVB Bank remained on course during the first half of 2011, boosting its consolidated net income before taxes to €74.9 million, up 26.9% (H1 2010: €59.0 million). DVB’s income (comprising net interest income after allowance for credit losses, net fee and commission income, net income from financial instruments in accordance with IAS 39, results from investments accounted for using the equity method, and net other operating income/expenses) totalled €162.0 million, an increase of 15.8% over the results for the first half of 2010 (€139.9 million).
At €112.2 million, net interest income increased by 2.5% year-on-year (H1 2010: €109.5 million). Even though new international Transport Finance business continued to increase, reflecting growth in global transport volumes, DVB maintained its business policy – one that is both risk-aware and committed. DVB originated 75 new transactions, with an aggregate volume of €2.4 billion (H1 2010: 54 new transactions with a total volume of €1.6 billion).
Monarch Aircraft Engineering signs deal with Air Malta

Monarch Aircraft Engineering (MAEL) has signed a line maintenance technical handling agreement with Air Malta. The agreement will see MAEL’s experienced engineering team provide support for the Maltese flag carrier’s operational fleet of A319 & A320 aircraft at their line stations in Luton, Birmingham, Dublin, Alicante and Malaga.
Weststar Aviation Services chose ADSoftware Solutions

ADSoftware released that Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Weststar Group, has selected ADSoftware’s aviation dedicated software AIRPACK to manage its maintenance, planning and integrated logistics. ADSoftware have started implementing AIRPACK in Malaysia at the company’s AW 139 Main base at Kerteh. Weststar Aviation Services found in AIRPACK a global solution that addresses its technical needs and rapid growth. With the help of ADSoftware, processes of Weststar Aviation Services will become more harmonized, which will result in a more productive and cost effective management of the company. Furthermore, the flexibility of the software package will allow Weststar to pursue its growth strategy and incorporate additional helicopters to its fleet.
Itsik Maaravi named new President of Piedmont Aviation Component Services

Piedmont Aviation Component Services, a fully owned subsidiary of TAT Technologies, announced that Mr. Itsik Maaravi has been named President. Mr. Maaravi joined the group in 2009 as CMO for Limco Piedmont. Formerly VP Marketing for Kamor Aviation and Director of Sales for Bedek Aviation Group, Israel Aerospace Industries, he will lead and further develop Piedmont Aviation’s two facilities in Kernersville and Winston-Salem, NC.
AMR takes next step in spin-off of Eagle as separate publicly-traded company

AMR Corporation reported that its subsidiary, AMR Eagle Holding Corporation, has filed a Form 10 Registration Statement (“Form 10″) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The Form 10 filing marks the next step in a potential spin-off of Eagle and describes the potential spin-off, provides an overview of Eagle’s business, management and its ongoing relationship with American Airlines, and provides historical and pro forma consolidated financial statements of Eagle. In the spin-off, AMR Corporation would distribute to its stockholders 100 percent of the outstanding shares of Eagle on a pro rata basis, and AMR Corporation would not retain any ownership interest in Eagle.
On a pro forma basis, in 2010, Eagle generated $1.2 billion in revenue with more than $250 million from ground handling services. Eagle would operate the third largest regional airline in the United States as it provides the vast majority of American’s regional flight operations. Under a nine-year air services agreement with American, Eagle would initially operate 281 aircraft on behalf of American. American could withdraw from Eagle and re-bid up to 12 turbo prop aircraft per year beginning in 2012 and a specified number of jet aircraft up to 40 per year beginning in 2014. The agreement would also include a provision to re-set rates to reflect any change in market levels for regional feed after four years.
CIT signs firm order for 50 A320neo aircraft

CIT Aerospace, a unit of CIT Group a global leader in transportation finance, has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for the 50 A320neo family aircraft, which it had committed to at the 49th Le Bourget airshow on 21st June 2011. This deal brings the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by CIT since 1999 to 237 comprising 191 A320 Family aircraft (including the 50 A320neo aircraft), 41 A330s, five A350 XWBs of which 144 have been delivered so far.
THAI becomes new customer for A350 XWB and A320 Family

Thai Airways International Public Company (THAI) has signed a contract with Airbus covering the firm order of four A350-900s and five A320 aircraft, becoming a new customer for both aircraft types. The aircraft have been selected by the airline under its fleet modernisation programme, with the A350 XWB set to operate on long haul services to Europe and the A320s on domestic and regional routes. In addition to the aircraft ordered from Airbus, the airline is also leasing eight additional A350-900s and six more A320s from third party lessors.
Skywest Airlines takes delivery of its first ATR 72-500

Australian carrier Skywest Airlines took delivery of its first ATR 72-500, which is also the very first ATR 72 aircraft in Australia. Skywest Airlines will operate its new ATR fleet on behalf of Virgin Australia, as part of a 10-year agreement signed recently between both airlines to create a regional network for Virgin Australia. This delivery follows the signature of a contract for 4 ATR 72-500s and 4 ATR 72-600s, plus 5 options, inked earlier this year between ATR and the leasing company Avation PLC. The remaining 3 ATR 72-500s will be delivered this year, while the 4 ATR 72-600s will enter into service in 2012. All of these ATR 72s will wear the new white and red livery of Virgin Australia.
