Rolls-Royce wins order from CIT to power 23 aircraft

Rolls-Royce has won an order from US leasing company CIT Aerospace for Trent XWB engines, to power ten Airbus A350 XWB aircraft and Trent 700 engines to power 13 Airbus A330 aircraft. The Trent XWB engines will power ten CIT A350 aircraft that were announced in January 2013 which were in addition to five A350 XWB aircraft already on order. The Trent XWB, specifically designed for the Airbus A350, is the fastest selling Trent engine ever, with more than 1,200 already sold. The engine variant that will power the A350-800 and -900 was awarded European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification in February. The engine will power the first flight of the Airbus A350 XWB this year and the aircraft’s first in-service flight in 2014.
Thomas C. Hutton named CEO of PAS Technologies

PAS Technologies reported that Tom Hutton has joined the management team of PAS as CEO. Mr. Hutton has over 25 years of experience in the aerospace industry in operational and executive roles, serving most recently as Vice President of Pratt & Whitney’s Global Service Partners. In the new organizational structure, Phil Milazzo will continue to serve as the Company’s President, working in close partnership with Mr. Hutton and leading the Company’s business development and customer relationship activities.
MacCarthy Aviation modifies five ship sets of B747 galleys from KSSU to ATLAS standard

Midair, a specialist in fleet modification and upgrades, used MacCarthy Aviation on two significant projects:
For the first project MacCarthy Aviation modified five complete ship sets of B747 galleys from KSSU to ATLAS standard. The fleet of ex Singapore Airlines was acquired by an Eastern European airline that operates using ATLAS standard catering equipment. The ex Singapore aircraft needed all the galleys to be converted prior to being put in to service. “The galleys were shipped to our UK facility, from USA, converted, rewired and returned while the aircraft was undergoing overhaul and modification, explains Phil Francis, Sales Director MacCarthy Aviation. “The last set will be shipped in February 2012.”
Midair also contracted MacCarthy Aviation to provide engineering support for a EASA STC for the cabin reconfiguration of 4 ex South African Airways B747’s which are being converted in to High density configuration, changing the capacity from 370 to 522 passengers. The work includes a completely new IFE system and in seat power modification throughout the cabin. MacCarthy Aviation are responsible for compiling and submitting the full EASA STC package and coordinating data from suppliers from a range of different elements of the project including IFE, Seat and cabin equipment suppliers. The aircraft, which will operate on an EASA AOC, underwent a major configuration change in preparation for the new customer.
Resource Group acquires LRTT

As of December 31st 2011, Resource Group acquired all the share capital in their Joint Venture Company, Lufthansa Resource Technical Training Ltd (LRTT) and took full control of the business. From January 1st 2012 Lufthansa Resource Technical Training Ltd will be known as LRTT Ltd.

Spirit AeroSystems delivers first A350 XWB section 15 to Airbus

Spirit AeroSystems has successfully delivered its first composite center fuselage section for the Airbus A350 XWB program. The upper and forward lower shell (Section 15) composite fuselage panels were joined in Spirit’s Saint-Nazaire, France, facility before being delivered to Airbus. Spirit is the world’s largest independent supplier of commercial airplane assemblies and components.
Southwest Airlines reports December traffic

Southwest Airlines December traffic declined 0.3% compared to December 2010, while capacity increased 1.8%. The load factor for December was down 1.7 points to 78.4%.
Republic Airways reports December load factor of 79%

Republic Airways Holdings reported preliminary passenger traffic results for December 2011. Traffic increased 3% compared to December 2010, while capacity increased 1%. The load factor for the month was up 3.0 points to 79% compared to the previous year.
Frontier Airlines’ traffic increased 7%

Frontier’s traffic increased 7% in December 2011, while capacity was flat. Frontier Airlines reported a load factor of 85%, up 5.0 points to the previous year.
B/E Aerospace to acquire UFC Aerospace

B/E Aerospace has signed a definitive agreement to acquire UFC Aerospace Corp. (UFC), an innovative provider of complex supply chain management and inventory logistics solutions to aerospace original equipment manufacturers. UFC currently distributes over 150,000 SKUs (stock keeping units) including fasteners, chemicals, paints, sealants, tooling, and duct/bent tubing assemblies to over 1,000 customers. UFC leverages its long-term relationships with key customers to create differentiated supply chain solutions. As a result of the expected accretive nature of this transaction, B/E Aerospace announced that it is increasing its 2012 earnings per share guidance by approximately $0.10 per diluted share to approximately $2.75 per diluted share.
CASCO appoints Michael Davis as Non-Executive Overseas Director

He is currently CEO of Midair S.A Geneva, and also has controlling interest in Midair USA Inc. & Midair Aviation (Ireland).
Eivind Roald new Sales & Marketing head at SAS

Former Hewlett Packard Norway’s CEO, Eivind Roald, will become the new head of Sales & Marketing of SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Roald will join SAS’ group management team, which will now be complete following last September’s restructure that took place in conjunction with the launch of SAS’ new strategy 4Excellence.
Eastar Jet chooses A J Walter Aviation to provide PBH support

A J Walter Aviation has been awarded a seven year contract to provide power-by-the-hour support to Korea’s leading low cost airline, Eastar Jet. The agreement covers the airline’s current fleet of six B737NG aircraft though Eastar Jet plans to rapidly grow this fleet to operate a minimum of sixteen aircraft by 2021. This contract is an important step for AJW as it fast tracks its growth in the Asian market.
Oakenhurst Aircraft Services launches oxygen system repair and overhaul service

Oakenhurst Aircraft Services has opened a dedicated oxygen system workshop to add to its growing range of Airline, Commercial and Business Jet component repair and overhaul capabilities. Based at Oakenhurst’s Rayleigh, Essex, UK headquarters the workshop is conveniently located for London’s four major airports. Oakenhurst already has considerable experience of repair and overhaul of oxygen systems at its Boryspil, Kiev facility in Ukraine and is adding the UK workshop to meet growing demand. The new workshop will provide overhaul and repair of: portable oxygen systems; fixed oxygen systems; oxygen masks, regulators and smoke hoods; and passenger service units.
Helitrans AS selects Alkym Management and Control System

Volartec released that Helitrans AS has selected Alkym, Management and Control System for Aircraft Maintenance to replace their existing system. Helitrans will become Volartec’s first customer in Scandinavia and also the first Helicopter operator in Europe. John Barry, VP Business Development with Volartec launched the news by stating “We have looked at areas for expansion in our business and the rotary wing operator is just one example where there is currently possibilities to grow our market share. This sector has specific requirements that we already cater for. And being a very cost effective product Alkym is perfect for the type of Operator that Helitrans represents – a forward thinking large helicopter/fixed wing operator.”
Air France-KLM finalize order for 25 787s

Boeing and Air France-KLM Group have finalized an order for 25 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with options. The order was signed in late December 2011 and was recorded on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website, attributed to an unidentified customer. A preliminary agreement was first announced on September 16, 2011.
The Air France-KLM Group is a long-time Boeing customer with a large fleet of 188 Boeing airplanes in operation, including 74 for Air France and 114 for KLM. Air France-KLM is one of the world’s largest 777 operators.
Air France-KLM report load factor of 81.5% for December

Air France-KLM reported that December capacity was up by 6.3% and traffic rose 7.5% compared to the same period in 2010, leading to a one point gain in load factor to 81.5%.
Simrit supplies emergency door seal to China’s first commercial aircraft

Specifically designed for the precise requirements of the emergency door application, the seal offers low abrasion and reduced friction characteristics to meet the demanding needs of the global aerospace industry. These requirements were critical to the success of the seal, as they result in increased durability when opening and closing of an emergency door is necessary.
Skywest reports combined traffic for December

SkyWest reported December 2011 traffic for SkyWest Airlines, Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines. Combined traffic for December increased 3.8%, while capacity increased 2.6% compared to December 2010. Combined load factor was 78.5%, up 0.9 points compared to December 2010.
United Airlines and AFA reach tentative agreement

United Continental Holdings announced that the United Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) informed UAL that the MEC has approved a tentative agreement between AFA and UAL for a flight attendants’ contract and is recommending the tentative agreement to United flight attendants for their consideration and ratification. The agreement is the result of an expedited mediation process that began last September, modeled on the National Mediation Board’s Expedited Mediation Program. The agreement provides for numerous improvements, including increased wages and a signing bonus for United flight attendants.
Bombardier Learjet announces further expansion of Learjet Wichita site

Bombardier Learjet released details of the further expansion of Bombardier’s Learjet site in Wichita: the growth of the site includes the expansion of the Bombardier Flight Test Center, the establishment of a Bombardier Center of Excellence of Engineering and Information Technology, new facilities for paint and production flight test as well as a new delivery center. The expansion will also help create 450 new jobs over the course of seven to 10 years. The expansion is being supported by an incentive offer worth $16m in financial support from the State of Kansas, which will be added to the $600m investment Bombardier is currently making to develop the Learjet 85 midsize jet and to expand Learjet’s Wichita facility.
P&W awarded $194m F135 long-lead production contract

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Pratt & Whitney a $194m long-lead production contract for F135 engines to power the F-35 Lightning II. The low rate initial production (LRIP) contract covers long-lead materials for the sixth lot of F135 engines, and provides Pratt & Whitney the ability to start procuring long-lead items for production engines.
BOC Aviation leases two new A320-200 aircraft to South African Airways

BOC Aviation has signed an agreement with South African Airways for the lease of two new A320-200 aircraft. The aircraft, powered by IAE 2527-A5 SelectOne engines, are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year.
