Italy’s new flag-carrying airline Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A. (ITA Airways) has signed lease agreements with AerCap for ten brand new Airbus A320neo and two bran new Airbus A330neo aircraft which will be scheduled to deliver from 2023 through 2024.
The deal expands the newly formed carrier’s all-airbus fleet, save for one Embraer E190 which is on wet lease from German Airways and used for flights to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva Airports. ITA Airways took over 18 A319-100s, 31 A320-200s and eight A330-200s from the previous and now defunct Italian flag-carrying airline Alitalia. Once all orders have been fulfilled its fleet will extend from the current 57 aircraft to 86 aircraft. ITA Airways served 35 destinations as of January 2022 and plans to serve 74 destinations by the end of 2025.
Peter Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, said, “We are very pleased to expand our relationship with ITA Airways through the lease of these twelve advanced-technology Airbus A320neo and A330neo aircraft. These aircraft will enable ITA Airways to expand its network, whilst advancing its commitment to maintain an environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient fleet”.
