Interglobe Aviation to call EGM over share rules for its offshoot, IndiGo Airlines

As a the result of a long-running spat between IndiGo’s co-founders, Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Batia, parent company Interglobe Aviation has called an extraordinary general meeting for January 29 to give consideration to a proposal by Rakesh Ganwal who, with the Chinkerpoo family trust and Shobha Gangwal, holds a 37% stake in the company through the RG Group.

Gangwal wants to amend IndiGo’s articles of association covering rules around the sale and acquisition of shares by its two major shareholders, making it easier for either party to sell or increase their stake in the Indian low-cost carrier. Relations between the co-founders reached an all-time low in July 2019 when IndiGo published a 49-page document detailing Gangwal’s allegations of governance improprieties. Bhatia countered that Gangwal was using it as a ploy to take greater control of the carrier. As a consequence, Bhatia turned to the London Court of International Arbitration to resolve hostilities between himself and Gangwal.

In a stock market disclosure on January 3, Interglobe Aviation disclosed an EGM will be held on 29 January to “consider and, if thought fit, pass” a resolution amending the company’s articles of association.

Founded in 2005 and with its main hub at Delhi’s Indira Ghandi International Airport, IndiGo is India’s largest airline and is currently undergoing a massive expansion program as a result of the demise of Indian low-cost carrier Jet Airways in April 2019. Having placed an order for 300 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft in October 2019, Indigo currently operates more than 1,400 daily flights serving 83 destinations.

Lufthansa Group plans more than 4,500 new hires

This year the Lufthansa Group will be hiring more than 4,500 new employees in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as things stand in present; among them 3,000 hires will take place in Germany. This involves both re-placement appointments due to fluctuation and, in some cases, job increases. The focus of the recruitment planned in the DACH countries is “on the ground” with around 2,500 positions. Almost 1,300 new flight attendants are to be hired across the Lufthansa Group.

Around 1,000 new employees are slated to be hired at the core brand Lufthansa in 2020. 450 prospective flight attendants alone will begin their training at the Munich location. In addition, 40 flying colleagues will be joining Lufthansa CityLine at the Bavarian hub. The Lufthansa subsidiary in Munich plans to employ approximately as many administrative staff. Furthermore, around 100 recruitments in administration are planned at Lufthansa, along with around 300 in ground operations. The crane airline is also looking for candidates in the area of IT and for other expert positions this year.

Bain Capital Credit to invest in Atlas Air Worldwide’s Titan Aircraft Leasing business

Titan Aviation Holdings, a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings and Bain Capital Credit, have entered into an agreement to form a joint venture to develop a diversified freighter aircraft leasing portfolio with an anticipated value of approximately US$1 billion. The long-term joint venture aims to capitalize on demand for cargo aircraft, underpinned by robust e-commerce and express market growth.

Under the joint venture, Bain and Titan have committed to provide US$360 million and US$40 million of equity capital, respectively, which may be supplemented with additional commitments over time, to acquire aircraft over the next several years. Titan will also provide aircraft- and lease-management services to the venture.

Since its inception in 2009, Titan has grown to become the third largest freighter lessor globally by fleet value with over 30 aircraft and book value of over US$1.5 billion.

Lockheed Martin delivers 134 F-35s in 2019

Lockheed Martin has delivered the 134 F-35 aircraft in 2019, exceeding the joint government and industry 2019 delivery goal of 131 aircraft.

One hundred and thirty-four deliveries represent a 47% increase from 2018 and nearly a 200 percent production increase from 2016. Next year, Lockheed Martin plans to deliver 141 F-35s and is prepared to increase production volume year-over-year to hit peak production in 2023.

The 134th aircraft, delivered on December 30, is a Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL) model for the United States Marine Corps.  In 2019, deliveries included 81 F-35s for the United States, 30 for international partner nations and 23 for Foreign Military Sales customers.

Spirit Airlines appoints Matt Klein as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer

Spirit Airlines' Board of Directors has promoted Matt Klein to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). In this role, Klein will oversee Marketing, Pricing & Revenue Management, Network Planning & Scheduling, and Commercial & Operational Analytics. He joined Spirit in August 2016 as Senior Vice President and CCO.

Klein has over 20 years of management experience in the airline and travel industries. Prior to joining Spirit, Klein most recently worked in various consulting capacities in the travel industry. Prior to that, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at lastminute.com and Vice President, Global Airline Relations at Travelocity.

Bombardier delivers fully equipped Learjet 75 aircraft to Holand Automotive Group

Bombardier has delivered a fully equipped Learjet 75 aircraft to Montreal-based leasing firm Holand Automotive Group.

Holand Automotive Group, which already owns and operates another Learjet 75 aircraft, will make this newest Learjet 75 aircraft available for charter out of Montreal. This fully equipped, reliable light jet is ideally suited for eight passengers. It features a spacious, comfortable cabin and a pocket door that ensures an exceptionally quiet flight. Learjet aircraft deliver Bombardier’s signature smooth ride, for maximum productivity and comfort.

HOP! takes delivery of one new Embraer E190 from NAC

Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) has delivered one new Embraer E190, MSN 19000771, to HOP! on lease. This is the sixth aircraft to deliver as part of a seven aircraft lease agreement.

HOP! is a subsidiary airline of the AIR FRANCE Group. The airline operates flights for Air France, in several regions of France and Europe.

Embraer KC-390 Millennium airlifter successfully concludes airdrop testing campaign

The KC-390 Millennium new generation multi-mission medium airlifter has successfully concluded the testing campaign for gravity airdrop and extraction drop of heavy loads by the use of the Container Delivery System (CDS) and Low Velocity Air Drop (LVAD), respectively.

The KC-390 Millennium has a fully automated Cargo Handling and Aerial Delivery System on the cargo compartment, were a loadmaster can perform all activities, while reducing workload and improving awareness. For the pilots, a system called CCDP (Continuously Computed Drop Point) calculates the optimum airdrop release point for better accuracy on the mission accomplishment. Both Systems were developed by Embraer.

The tests, conducted by Embraer in cooperation with the Brazilian Air Force and Brazilian Army, were performed at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground facilities, in Arizona, USA. Major achievements of the testing campaign were the airdrop of a single maximum platform with 19 metric tons (42,000 lb) as well as the sequential aerial delivery of two platforms weighing 24 metric tons in total. Based on these results, the KC-390 Millennium becomes the only medium airlifter able to perform such extreme operation.

Over the 2019 airdrop campaign the KC-390 Millennium has delivered several containers by gravity with up to 24 containers in one pass, and multiple Type V platforms using extraction parachutes, with a total combined payload of 330 metric tons.

Airbus delivers 863 aircraft in 2019 and surpasses rival Boeing for first time since 2011

Airbus has taken full advantage of Boeing’s 737 MAX woes and even managed to exceed the company’s October’s revised goal of 860 deliveries for 2019.

Having canceled many holidays and re-allocated elements of its workforce, the European plane manufacturer managed to complete a backlog of aircraft which were waiting to have their cabins adjusted. In total, Airbus delivered 863 aircraft, of which 640 were single-aisle variants. This was an increase of 7.9 percent on its 2018 deliveries. According to Reuters news agency, these figures have to be audited before they can be officially published, while Airbus has yet to comment on its achievement.

Between January and November 2019, Boeing managed to deliver 345 jets, mainly long-haul variants, which will likely see the American aerospace giant deliver less than half the 806 jets it delivered in 2018. However, Airbus did not have a trouble-free year where deliveries were concerned, caused principally by problems with the new A321neo jet layout. With assembly taking place in Hamburg, Germany, dozens of the jets had to be stored in hangars while awaiting last minute configurations as well as the arrival of additionally needed workforce. However, Airbus’ deliveries for 2019 were still an industry record.
