Air Europa of Spain announces order for eight 787 Dreamliners

Spanish carrier Air Europa announced an order for eight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners valued at $1.3 billion at list prices. The order, placed by Air Europa in 2007, previously was accounted for on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries Web site as an unidentified customer. Air Europa also acquired purchase rights for an additional eight 787s. Air Europa has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine to power its 787s. Finncomm Airlines signs contract for 5 ATR 72-500s

ATR and the Finish carrier Finncomm Airlines announced the purchase of 5 ATR 72-500s for a contract valued at over $90 million. In 2005, Finncomm Airlines ordered 8 ATR 42-500s, plus options for 8 additional aircraft. In 2006 the airline converted 4 of the firm 42-500s into ATR 72-500s, and also announced the exercise of three of the options into firm ATR 72-500s. Skyways Aviation arranges sale of two ATR 72 aircraft

Skyways Aviation has arranged the sale of two ATR 72 aircraft to Erik Thun AB of Sweden. Serial numbers 126 and 145 are currently operating with Aer Arann of Eire and Airlinair of France respectively and have been sold with long term leases attached. Erik Thun AB is a family owned Swedish shipping and aviation group founded in 1938. The company owns over 30 regional aircraft, 17 of which are operated by its regional airline subsidiary Golden Air.

Lockheed Martin Receives $1.4 billion contract for 17 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft

Lockheed Martin has signed a contract with the Government of Canada valued at $1.4 billion for the purchase of 17 C-130J Super Hercules airlifters and related equipment and services. The Canadian Forces’ new Super Hercules will be the longer fuselage or “stretched” variant of the C-130J, similar to those being delivered to the U.S. Air Force. Deliveries to Canada will begin in 2010. Canada joins the growing number of nations with C-130J fleets. Allied operators include the United States, Australia, Demark, Italy, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Spirit AeroSystems assessing impact of 787 schedule shift

Spirit AeroSystems will continue to work with Boeing to assess the 787 program schedule. Spirit President and CEO Jeff Turner said, “Although the additional delays in first flight and first delivery are disappointing for all of us, I continue to be pleased with Spirit’s overall performance on the program. Qantas says B787 delay has no impact on Group earnings

Qantas said that the three-month delay of the 787 Dreamliner announced by Boeing would now see Jetstar not take delivery of its first B787 before May 2009. The Chief Executive Officer of Qantas, Mr Geoff Dixon, said that while the delay would affect Jetstar’s international expansion in the short term, there would be no effect on the Qantas Group’s overall growth strategy and no impact on Qantas Group earnings.
