China Airlines has invested in China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL), based in Hong Kong. Beginning in January 2006, China Airlines will switch its aircraft maintenance work at Hong Kong airport from HAECO to CASL. CASL offers a comprehensive range of aircraft maintenance and support services which cover maintenance operations, cabin services, ground support equipment, supply and stores. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Marion C. Blakey called for federal mediation to help the agency reach a voluntary contract agreement with the air traffic controllers union which comes after four and a half months of negotiations. The Boeing Company has delivered to Air France the first Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplane that includes enhancements that improve the overall fuel efficiency of the 777-300ER by 1.4 percent. This amount is in addition to the 2 percent fuel-burn improvement already proven in revenue service by the airlines that operate the 777-300ER. A 1.4 percent improvement in fuel efficiency on this airplane equates to an annual jet-fuel savings of approximately 200,000 gallons (757,000 liters).
