Boeing is currently reviewing a new technical issue with the software update for the currently grounded 737 MAX jet. “We are making necessary updates,” Boeing said in a statement. Officials at the planemaker have confirmed that the issue relates to a software power-up monitoring function which verifies that certain system monitors are correctly operating. In addition, both the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing are currently reviewing a wiring problem that has the potential to cause a short-circuit which could cause a crash if pilots did not respond to such an occurrence. It appears that two bundles of wiring have been placed too closely together.

Boeing and the FAA are attempting to complete a document audit that commenced in November last year, but with the latest problems and while awaiting Boeing's recommendations to overcome the current software glitch, the FAA does not anticipate certifying the 737 MAX’s airworthiness until the end of March and possibly not until April this year.
|
Last week both American Airlines and Southwest Airlines confirmed that they have removed 737 MAX flights from their schedules until June.

Pan-African law firm Centurion Law Group has led the entry of Turkish Airlines into Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Operations on the new route will commence on February 7, 2020. The entry of Turkish Airlines into Equatorial Guinea supports the objectives of the year of investment initiative led by the Ministry of Mines and Hyrocarbons.

As part of its mission to open new routes and expand its fleet in 2020, Turkish Airlines has added Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to its route network. The new service will link the existing Nigeria, Port Harcourt route and will operate in rotation: Istanbul – Port Harcourt – Malabo – Istanbul.

Universal Avionics has appointed Franc Mendes to the position of Airline Business Development Manager. Based out of Phoenix, Arizona (USA), he is responsible for introducing UA’s product line including the ClearVision™ Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) to the airline market. Additionally, he will support UA’s Flight Department as a demonstration pilot for the company’s Gulfstream G-III aircraft.

Mendes joins UA with over 24 years of experience in the aerospace industry. Most recently, he served in the position of Technical and Safety Pilot for the Boeing Company in Shanghai, China. Prior to Boeing, he was a long-haul pilot for Cathay Pacific Airways.

GA Telesis (GAT) has completed the acquisition of two Airbus A319 aircraft, which are subject to multi-year leases with Rossiya Airlines.
|
“For many years, Rossiya has been an outstanding airline partner for GA Telesis. Rossiya and GA Telesis have enjoyed a relationship between three GA Telesis divisions and we are very pleased to expand our relationship by leasing two A319 aircraft to such a great operator,” commented Marc Cho, President of GA Telesis’ Leasing Investment Financing & Trading (LIFT) Group.

The transaction was executed by GA Telesis Aviation Investments 2 LLC (GAIN 2), an aviation investment vehicle managed by GA Telesis Capital Management and co-funded by GAT and Wafra Capital Partners.

Delta Air Lines will add 13 new daily nonstop flights to Miami International Airport (MIA) from hubs and top corporate travel destinations around the U.S., including new service from Orlando, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City and Tampa.
|
Delta’s increased service into MIA is part of the carrier’s developing partnership with LATAM, announced late last year. With this expanded network, Delta will offer 41 daily non-stop options between 10 U.S. airports and Miami. Delta’s partnerships today extend its Miami reach across the globe to 12 international nonstop destinations, with LATAM offering 10 additional international destinations from Miami.

In addition to providing Delta’s Miami-based customers with more options throughout the airline’s network, Delta’s new flight schedule will be timed to maximize connectivity with LATAM. The two airlines are conveniently co-located at MIA, allowing swifter connecting times for customers.

SkyWorks Holdings has reported the following transactions and activities performed during the fourth-quarter 2019:

SkyWorks was retained by Global Knafaim Leasing to sell two Airbus A320 aircraft and one A321 aircraft on lease to British Airways. On behalf of a U.S. investor, SkyWorks managed the lease return and arranged the sale of one Boeing 737-700 aircraft, previously operated by Southwest Airlines, to United Airlines. On behalf of a U.S. investor, SkyWorks arranged the sale of five Airbus A320 aircraft, currently on lease to United Airlines. On behalf of Aviator Capital, SkyWorks arranged the sale of one Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft on lease to Mesa Airlines and two GEnx engines on lease to GE. On behalf of Philip Morris Capital Corporation, SkyWorks arranged the sale of four Airbus A319 aircraft currently on lease to American Airlines. On behalf of a U.S. investor, SkyWorks arranged the sale of two Boeing 737-400s to Safair.

On behalf of its Sierra Echo Aircraft Leasing Limited vehicle, SkyWorks closed on the acquisition of one Boeing 787-8 aircraft on lease to Aeromexico and two Airbus A321-200 aircraft on lease to Aegean. The aircraft will be managed by SkyWorks Leasing (Ireland).

China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC), a full value-chain aircraft solutions provider for global airlines, has reached an agreement with Airbus on its remaining backlog, and includes an additional order of 40 A321neo aircraft. It also includes a conversion of 15 of its existing A320neo backlog into A321neos. Together with a previous order for 11 A321neos, CALC’s total order for the type rises to 66.

CALC’s order is an endorsement for the A321neo and reaffirms the market demand for the aircraft. To date, from CALC’s total order for 252 A320 Family aircraft, 87 have been delivered of which one is an A321neo.

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) has signed a US$300 million four-year unsecured term loan with China Construction Bank (DIFC Branch) and China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited. The principal amount of the loan can be increased to US$500 million. The loan will support the future financing needs of the business.

Laurence Petiard has been appointed Head of External Communications for Airbus Helicopters, effective January 2020. In this new role, she will be in charge of coordinating Airbus Helicopters’ media relations, web, and social media activities.
|
Petiard has worked for the last five years in the Airbus Helicopters media relations department, where she was in charge of external communications for a variety of civil and military helicopter programs, while also acting as the main contact for French media, among others.
|
She has been with the company since 2005 in various project management roles, including four and half years with the H160 program team.
|

Liebherr Aerospace Brasil, Guaratinguetá (Brazil), has entered into a new partnership with PTI Technologies, based in Oxnard, California (USA) and has signed a contract to become the supplier of hydraulic manifolds for Embraer’s latest aircraft.
|
Liebherr Aerospace Brasil welcomed several PTI senior leaders to its facility in Guaratingueta (Brazil) in the fall of 2019 for the celebration of the first strategic collaboration between the two companies.
|
PTI will begin placing orders with Liebherr for three different kinds of manifolds to support the Embraer E2 during the first quarter of 2020.
