In the wake of the grounding of nearly one-third of all Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) pilots, the U.S has followed in the footsteps of the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA)and has revoked the permission for PIA charter flights to fly to the U.S.
|
The U.S. Department of Transportation took such action on the recommendation of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) owing to its concerns over the validity of pilot certifications. A copy of the revocation of special authorization was dated July 1 and a copy was sent to Reuters news agency.
|
The EASA issued a six-month ban on PIA flights on June 30 on discovering that up to 262 pilots at PIA had “dubious licenses”. Investigations into the validity of PIA pilots’ licenses began after the fatal crash in May of a PIA jet that crashed after a failed landing attempt which killed all but one of the passengers and crew on board, and one civilian on the ground.

“It is a setback for us,” the PIA’s spokesman, Abdullah H. Khan told Reuters in an email. The airline was planning to expand the current special flights arrangements to re-initiate a regular schedule from Pakistan to the United States to provide direct flights, he said. “We are continuously engaged with them and sincerely hope that with the confidence building measures, the decision would be reviewed,” Khan added.

Director General EUROCONTROL Eamonn Brennan and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Executive Director Patrick Ky together officially opened the joint EASA-EUROCONTROL Technical and Coordination Office (TeCO) at EUROCONTROL’s Brussels Headquarters.

The Office is designed to improve the efficiency of the two organisations’ joint activities.
|
For Eamonn Brennan, this “marks a major step forward in the increasingly strong cooperation between the two organisations, providing strong cooperation at all levels. Through the Joint TeCO, we will be able to provide the required technical support to EASA, further improve our cooperation and avoid duplication.”
|
The safety and efficient running of air traffic in Europe is based on a complex system, which comprises harmonised air traffic management and air navigation services managed by a number of different organisations. EASA acts as the European regulator of the system while EUROCONTROL is the pan-European civil-military aviation organisation playing a central coordination role.
|
Managed by EASA’s Emanuil Radev, the TeCO will initially draw upon the technical know-how of four experts seconded from EUROCONTROL. The unit will provide technical support on regulation and standards, on safety oversight management, and on international cooperation activities, including the provision of specific tasks and services to aviation actors as required.

At the Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC) in Frankfurt, Fiege Air Cargo Logistics (FACL) will take over the operative handling and co-ordination of inbound and outbound standard shipments in several phases until mid 2021. The physical cargo handling processes in the LCC had already been largely outsourced to various external service providers for many years.

In the course of digitalization, the process landscape in LCC was standardized across the board and consistently aligned with the material flow. "Our future partner contributes additional expertise in the area of digitalization as well as efficient design and implementation of warehouse processes. At the same time, the new cooperation model will reduce the number of direct interfaces for Lufthansa Cargo, enabling us to make optimum use of the advantages of digitization. FACL will be an important partner for us in all aspects of physical handling at the Frankfurt hub," explains Dr. Mohammad Ali Seiraffi, Lufthansa Cargo Vice President Handling Frankfurt and Head of the LCC.

Sault College and WinAir have partnered together to fully implemented WinAir Version 7 – the latest and fully web-based release of WinAir’s aviation management software – for the College’s School of Aviation. The software provides an aviation maintenance solution for supporting the daily operations at the College’s flight school.
|
This decision to collaborate with WinAir led to a remarkably simple product implementation with WinAir’s software implementation team, which took place in mid-January. Since WinAir’s software workflow and proven training methodology adheres to aviation maintenance best practices, Sault College was able to quickly take charge of the solution and go live with the product in early February. Now that the software has been in place, the College is realizing operational gains and envisioning ongoing success with the product.

Sault College School of Aviation was established in 1974 at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. It operates with 14 fixed-wing aircraft, comprised of 12 Zlín Z-242L single-engine trainer aircraft, and two Piper PA-44 Seminole twin-engine light aircraft.

Delta Cargo has partnered with online payment platform PayCargo and Unisys to offer customers an additional option to pay for their shipments’ destination charges. The new service for cargo shipments that originated internationally and delivered throughout the U.S. is available since July 10, 2020.

Boeing has completed delivery of all new AH-64E Apache and CH-47F(I) Chinook military helicopters to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The final five of the 22 Apache attack helicopters were handed over to the IAF at Air Force Station, Hindan. Earlier in March, Boeing handed over the last five of 15 CH-47F(I) Chinook heavy-lift helicopters to the IAF.

Boeing’s joint venture in Hyderabad, Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has been producing aero-structures for the AH-64 Apache helicopter for both U.S. Army and international customers. TBAL marks a major step towards the co-development of integrated systems in aerospace and defense in India. Boeing’s suppliers in India are manufacturing critical systems and components for the Chinooks, including the crown and tailcone assembly by Tata Advanced Systems and the ramp and aft pylon by Dynamatic Technologies. Boeing today works with over 200 suppliers and partners in the country in support of “Make in India” and “Skill India.”

Austrian Airlines has published the remaining summer flight schedule 2020, which will run until the end of October. By then, Austria's home carrier will double its offer from the current 20% to almost 40% compared to the previous year's schedule, subject to new official restrictions. Starting in August, Austrian Airlines will be flying to Shanghai again – initially once a week. From September onwards, further routes will be added to the flight schedule, which will initially be operated up to once a day. This concerns Chişinău, Dnipro, Iaşi, Klagenfurt, Leipzig, Lviv, Lyon, Nuremberg, Odessa and Yerevan.

In addition to resuming flights, Austrian Airlines is increasing capacity on almost all existing routes from September onwards. This means more flights and larger aircraft. For example, Amsterdam, Brussels, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Paris are on the program from September with up to three daily flights. Athens will be connected up to twice daily instead of once. Due to the constant ramp-up of operations, the offer will increase to over 30% in September. By the end of October, almost 40% of previous year's program and over 60 destinations are back in the flight schedule.
