In 2018 a feasibility study was launched by ADAC Luftrettung and sponsored by the ADAC foundation to examine if the rescue service system could be improved and future-proofed through the use of multicopters as a means of transport for emergency doctors, in cooperation with Volocopter, which is currently building the world’s first sustainable and scalable urban air mobility business to bring affordable air taxi services to megacities worldwide.

Whereas a traditional helicopter crew comprises one or two pilots, an emergency doctor and paramedics, the multicopter would have just a pilot and emergency doctor, though the pilot would undergo medical emergency training in order to play a supporting role to the emergency doctor. The multicopter has been identified as a means to satisfy the most urgent need in an emergency situation, the attendance of an emergency doctor. The role of the multicopter does not include patient evacuation – that would remain the role of the traditional helicopter. However, weight will be a critical issue with the multicopter as it will need to be equipped with medical equipment appropriate for emergency situations.

The study also investigated the economics of deploying multicopters and identified a clear reduction in cost compared to a traditional helicopter and would require a far lower level of initial investment. Based on the research results and the state of technological advancements, a nationwide network of up to 250 multicopter bases could be created in Germany by 2050 according to the project managers’ optimistic forecast.

Bii.aero, a provider of aircraft parts, repairs and services for the commercial, governmental/military and rotary aviation sector, has appointed Ian Foster as MRO Director. Foster will focus his significant global network of closely audited repair vendors and knowledge of contracted programs, to broaden Bii’s reach and compete effectively in highly cost-sensitive marketplace.

Bii has recently purchased a Boeing 737-800 aircraft (MSN28381) which was previously owned by lessor Aircastle and operated by Indonesian carrier, Sriwijaya. The material generated is designed to deliver a regular throughput of certified rotables, with all repairs managed by Foster and his team at Bii.

Athens-based airline, SKY express, has placed a firm order for four A320neo aircraft, becoming a new Airbus customer. In addition, the Greek airline recently leased two A320neos from ACG Aviation Capital Group and on that occasion joined the global list of 430 Airbus operators. The airline has selected CFM-International’s Leap-1A engines to power its aircraft.

Bombardier and Jetex have joined forces to establish a fixed-base operator (FBO) experience in Singapore.
|
Bombardier is in the midst of expanding capabilities and hangar space at its Singapore Service Centre at Seletar Aerospace Park to transform this facility into a high-capacity, one-stop-shop super centre, offering customers a full gamut of services required throughout an aircraft’s life.

Part of this major expansion is the introduction of Jetex’s FBO and ground handling systems to provide operators and passengers with seamless service from arrival to departure as part of Bombardier’s commitment to offering an exceptional customer experience.

Astronics Corporation has announced that the Unites States and Canada approved Astronics’ Max-Viz 1400 and 1200 Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) for Airbus Helicopter’s AS350 Écureuil.
|
In cooperation with AVIO dg in Calgary, Canada, Astronics obtained the Supplemental Type Certificates for its Max‑Viz 1400 and 1200 EVS from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) for approved models which are the Airbus Écureuil AS350B, AS350B1, AS350B2, AS350B3, AS350BA, and AS350BD.

Astronics’ Max-Viz 1200 and 1400 systems are lightweight, solid-state, low power, and feature an uncooled thermal camera. The sensor image displays on any cockpit equipment that accepts NTSC or PAL/Analog RS-170 video signals, including MFDs (Multi-Function Displays), PFDs (Primary Flight Displays) or on standalone displays depending on aircraft configurations.

Astronics’ Max-Viz EVS provides improved safety through enhanced vision, enabling pilots to see more precisely in adverse weather conditions, such as haze, smoke, smog, and light fog, even on the darkest night. In addition, pilots can detect and avoid clouds for a smoother ride. While landing, pilots using the Max-Viz EVS can identify the runway and view the terrain clearly to avoid wildlife and unlit obstructions.

AAR subsidiary Airinmar, the global independent provider of component repair cycle management and aircraft warranty solutions, has signed a new services agreement with European low-fare carrier Wizz Air.
|
Airinmar will provide a full suite of warranty management services covering airframes, engines and components. The agreement covers the identification, claim and recovery of the multiple airframe, engine and component warranty entitlements provided by Airbus and its suppliers. These services will integrate with Wizz Air’s current materials management activities and focus on maximizing the recovery of Wizz Air’s warranty entitlements and reducing the cost of aircraft maintenance.

APOC Aviation, the innovative leasing, trading, aircraft component and part-out specialist, has appointed industry professional Alexis Dufermont, as Director of Business Development. He will be responsible for expanding and diversifying APOC’s global customer network and the development of new routes to market for the organization’s rapidly growing A320 and B737 inventory of parts.

All six Super Tucano aircraft ordered by The Philippine Air Force (PAF) have been officially handed over to the Air Force on October 14, 2020. The aircraft will be deployed for close air support, light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception, counter-insurgency missions, advanced training and are part of PAF’s ongoing modernization plan.

These aircraft will be operated and maintained by the 15th Strike Wing, the PAF’s end-user. In November 2017, a firm order of six A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft for the Philippine Air Force (PAF) was made after a comprehensive public bidding process.

HAECO Xiamen, a member of the HAECO Group, has completed its first Airbus A350 C-Check for Cathay Pacific Airways. With around 370 Airbus A350 aircraft now in operation, the aircraft type is well received by airlines from around the world.
