United Airlines has announced that it will be trialing a digital health pass on a flight between London Heathrow and Newark Liberty International, New Jersey, on October 21.
|
The digital health pass aims to set a common international standard for COVID-19 test results, together with future vaccine records, in an attempt to encourage countries worldwide to open up their borders again to international travelers. The nonprofit initiative, known as CommonPass, is supported by the World Economic Forum and The Common Project, a Swiss-based foundation.

“The goal of these trials is to demonstrate to governments that they can rely on someone getting tested in one country and present their credentials in another country,” Paul Meyer, chief executive of The Commons Project, told Reuters news agency.
|
Volunteers on the United flight will be observed by the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and they will upload COVID-19 test results from a certified lab to their smartphones and complete any required health screening questions to generate a verified QR (quick response) code that airline staff and border officials can scan. They will present the code, which can be printed for passengers without mobile devices, before departing and on arrival. The labs would verify a person’s identity for the app, which is designed to protect personal data and privacy, said Meyer, who is in a dialogue with airlines and countries across the globe for the project. “The model only works if countries agree to trust health data from other countries,” he added.

The Boeing Loyal Wingman aircraft being developed with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) recently moved under its own power for the first time, a key milestone for the aircraft that’s expected to make its first flight this year.
|
Reaching a maximum speed of 14 knots (approximately 16 mph, or 26 kilometers per hour), on the ground, the aircraft demonstrated several activities while maneuvering and stopping on command.
|
“The low-speed taxi enabled us to verify the function and integration of the aircraft systems, including steering, braking and engine controls, with the aircraft in motion,” said Paul Ryder, Boeing Australia Flight Test manager.
|
Three Loyal Wingman prototypes will be the foundation for the Airpower Teaming System that Boeing will offer customers worldwide.
|
The aircraft will fly alongside other platforms, using artificial intelligence for such teaming missions. It has advanced design and flight characteristics, including a modular nose section that’s customizable for specific needs and a conventional takeoff and landing approach suitable for many missions and runway types.

Aircraft charter and leasing specialist, Air Charter Service, has appointed Scott Collier as Director of Aircraft Leasing EMEA. He brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in the airline industry.

Aventure Aviation has acquired its first Boeing 737NG airframe (MSN 28497) for teardown. The item is being stored at Cotswold Airport in the United Kingdom, with Air Salvage International.

The aircraft was last operated by Jet Time A/S in Denmark, and has been under a maintenance storage plan since its recent removal from service. It has a half-life auxiliary power unit, and over seven years of green time remaining on its landing gear.
|
"This is an exciting new purchase for Aventure. As the aviation industry looks to rebound from pandemic-related lows earlier in the year, it has become clear that the 737NG platform will continue to lead the recovery. Coupled with the recent trend in converting older 737NGs into freighters, there will remain a strong demand for parts support going forward," said Talha Faruqi, Aventure Aviation Vice President.

Aventure Aviation is presently considering the acquisition of other Airbus, Boeing, and Bombardier models, focusing on end-of-life aircraft for dismantling and conversion.

Avianor has been selected by Air Transat for a "c-check" maintenance visit on one of its Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft. This new collaboration demonstrates the airline's confidence in Avianor, an affiliate of DRAKKAR Aerospace and Ground Transportation, which became the company's majority shareholder in 2019, and a joint commitment to support the local and national aerospace industry during a challenging time for the entire sector.

Avianor, a company specializing in MRO and cabin integration for commercial and military aircraft, has developed a high level of expertise in the market, with more than 900 maintenance visits on its roadmap. This new mandate allows the company to highlight its fields of expertise, with more than sixty technicians mobilized to deliver a high-quality product within the established deadlines.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will return to New York on November 9, 2020, when it launches non-stop flights between Singapore and John F. Kennedy International Airport.
|
Operating to JFK International Airport would allow Singapore Airlines to better accommodate a mix of passenger and cargo traffic on its services to New York in the current operating climate. SIA’s non-stop services to New York would also be supported by the growing number of transfer passengers who can now transit via Singapore’s Changi Airport.
|
SIA also anticipates significant cargo demand from a range of industries based in the New York metro area, including pharmaceuticals, e-commerce and technology firms. The new service will provide the only non-stop air cargo link from the U.S. Northeast to Singapore, which serves as a regional distribution hub for many major U.S.-based companies.

The Airline will operate the Airbus A350-900 long-range aircraft on the route. This aircraft is configured with 42 Business Class, 24 Premium Economy Class and 187 Economy Class seats.

GA Telesis (GAT) has signed a global parts distribution agreement with Honeywell for the CFM56-5B Variable Bleed Valve (VBV) stop mechanism. This partnership marks the kick-off for GA Telesis’ Flight Solutions Group
(FSG) to support the new aviation parts markets. The new division within FSG, designated the Distribution Solutions Group (DSG), was created to continue offering more solutions outside of Used Serviceable Material to the global customer base already covered by the FSG team.

This follows the recently announced distribution agreement for the Honeywell UV Cabin System, which expands GAT’s Tarmac Solutions Group’s ability to offer Specialized Tooling and Ground Support Equipment to airlines worldwide.
|
The newly signed three-year agreement will allow FSG to supply VBVs during shop visits for the CFM56-5B, installed on the A320 family of aircraft. FSG will be the exclusive distributor of this component to customers worldwide, outside of China. GA Telesis Engine Services (GATES),
based in Helsinki, Finland, will also offer installation of the VBV during engine maintenance.

Due to an expansion of the flight schedule in the summer months of July and August and considerable cost reductions, Lufthansa Group losses were reduced in the third-quarter compared to the second-quarter. On a preliminary basis, Adjusted EBIT in the third-quarter was EUR -1,262 million (previous year: EUR 1,297 million). After nine months, the operating loss was EUR -4,161 million (previous year: EUR 1,715 million).

The Adjusted free cash flow for the first nine months of 2020 amounted to EUR -2,579 million (previous year: EUR 685 million). In the third-quarter, Adjusted free cash flow was EUR -2,069 million (previous year: EUR 416 million). Payments of EUR 2.0 billion for corona-related flight cancellations were partly offset in the third-quarter by cash inflows from the expansion of flight activities in July and August. The Group also benefited from strict working capital management and the postponement of tax payments. Net debt at the end of the third quarter was EUR 8,930 million (December 31, 2019: EUR 6,662 million).

At the end of September, the Group had liquidity of EUR 10.1 billion at its disposal. This figure includes undrawn funds from the EUR 9 billion stabilization packages from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium. Out of those, EUR 6.3 billion are still available.
