Political tensions arising from talks taking place between Embraer and Boeing are rising further as labor union leaders have accused the Brazilian government of colluding behind the backs of Brazilians.
|
At Monday’s Senate hearing Herbert Claros da Silva, vice president of the metalworkers union of Sao Jose dos Campos said that: “We are being left in the dark. No one is explaining to us why this is good for Brazil,” adding: “We ask President Temer not to sell Embraer.”

The hearing had been called by Workers Party Senator Paulo Paim to discuss the talks between Boeing and Embraer for a potential partnership over which the government has veto power. Despite privatizing Embraer, the Brazilian government still retains a golden share in the plane-making business.
|
Embraer and Boeing passed no comment on the hearing, while a spokesman for the Defense Ministry, which has led a government working group vetting the deal, said the hearing was about jobs and not a defense matter.
Embraer and Boeing are looking to create a joint venture which will see the creation of a new, third company, which would include Embraer’s commercial aircraft division, but which would exclude the defense unit. A tie up of this nature would see Embraer take a major share in the 70-130-seat sector of the market, providing stiff competition for Bombardier and it’s CSeries of jets.

Union leader Silva acknowledged at Monday’s hearing that a tie-up would initially be a boon for Embraer as Boeing would help market its shorter-range jets around the world, but he was more concerned about the longer-term future of the 14,000-strong workforce at plants in Sao Jose dos Campos.

Boeing and the Canadian government have agreed to an amendment to an existing performance-based logistics (PBL) contract.
|
Under the US$313m fixed-price amendment, Boeing will continue to provide full system logistics, engineering support, supply chain, data analytics and training services to the Royal Canadian Air Force's (RCAF) fleet of 15 CH-147F Chinooks through 2023.
|
Operating under a 20-year performance-based sustainment and training contract since 2013, the RCAF reviews its Chinook fleet support requirements every five years.

Grupo de Transporte Especial (GTE)﹘the Special Transport Group of the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira)﹘has renewed its contract for Rockwell Collins’ ARINCDirect℠ flight support services to cover its fleet of 13 aircraft, which includes an Airbus A319, and Embraer ERJ145, E-190 and Legacy 600 aircraft.

The contract provides GTE with flight planning services that allow the group to create and file electronic flight plans anywhere worldwide﹘all while monitoring weather conditions and using aircraft performance data and the latest atmospheric forecasts for the most precise fuel burns and time calculations. GTE is responsible for the national and international flight transportation of the President of the Republic, ministers of state, and high-level national and foreign authorities.

Boeing and Air Lease Corporation (ALC) have finalized an order for eight more 737 MAX 8 airplanes, valued at US$936.8m at list prices. Air Lease Corporation (ALC), one of the world's leading airplane lessors, has been a big buyer of the improved 737 airplane. This new order raises ALC's total 737 MAX orders to 138.

The 737 MAX family is designed to offer customers exceptional performance, with lower operating costs and additional range to open up new destinations. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, Boeing Sky Interior, large flight deck displays and other features to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

Boeing has delivered more than 100 737 MAX airplanes to over 20 customers worldwide, including four to ALC, with the fifth delivering in May 2018.

The A350-900 flight test aircraft arrived at Santiago Chile’s Arturo Merino Benitez Airport for the 20th edition of the FIDAE air show, where it will be on static display and take part in flying demonstrations between April 2 and 5.
|
The A350-900 displayed in Santiago, MSN002, first made its debut at FIDAE in 2016. MSN002 is one of the five original development test aircraft, fitted with a two-class cabin with 42 lie-flat, business-class seats in a four-abreast configuration and 210 economy-class seats in a nine-abreast configuration. This aircraft was used for testing all cabin-related systems, which have demonstrated a high level of maturity since the A350-900’s entry into service in 2015.

The A350-900 is a member of the A350 XWB Family, an all-new family of mid-size widebody long-haul airliners shaping the future of air travel. Since its launch, Airbus has captured nearly 50% market share of net orders of widebody aircraft in Latin America.

C&L Aerospace, a C&L Aviation Group Company, has signed an agreement with CSI, a HEICO company, to serve as a distributor for Saab 340 Pitot Static Tubes overhauled to like-new factory specs. This new offering will bring significant cost savings to Saab 340 operators. Restored pitot tubes come with the same 18-month warranty and reliable performance.

To overhaul the pitot tubes, CSI replaces all major components, disassembles the probe using a specially develop process, and installs newly fabricated parts before reassembling the probe. The resulting airworthy conditioned Pitot Tubes come with dual release 8130 tags.

Acropolis Aviation has appointed Carlo Montanini as its Charter Sales Manager based at the company’s Farnborough Airport, UK headquarters.
|
Montanini brings valuable worldwide experience to his new role at Acropolis together with an extensive knowledge and understanding of client needs in the luxury business air charter market. In his new role, Carlo will be responsible for growing market share and maximising the revenue opportunities provided by Acropolis’ current Airbus ACJ319 aircraft, G-NOAH, and its new ACJ320neo, which is due to be delivered in 2019.

AAR, a global leader in aviation services, has signed a long-term Repair and Overhaul License agreement along with a Parts Supply agreement with Honeywell Aerospace. AAR will be providing repairs of over 1,800 Honeywell base part number and line replacements unit (LRU) repair items in AAR’s New York and Amsterdam component repair shops.

To support those component repairs, AAR will source over 4,000 material supply piece part items from Honeywell who will also provide repair and overhaul of LRUs to support AAR’s growing flight-hour component support programs for airline fleets worldwide.

The agreement covers various platforms including pneumatics, hydraulics, and power generation for Boeing, Airbus and regional commercial fleet types. These combined agreements make AAR a long-term Channel Partner to help grow and maintain the Honeywell products throughout the globe.

Airbus Helicopters has signed the first order for one H160 with an undisclosed customer in Brazil for private and business aviation operations. This order, the first from a Latin American customer, came after a flight demonstration in Marignane where the customer experienced first-hand the step-change in passenger comfort that the H160 brings to the market.
|
The H160 has been designed to offer all its passengers, whether for private and business aviation flights, Oil and Gas passenger transport, emergency medical services, or public services missions, with an exceptional flight experience thanks to the panoramic views provided by the large cabin windows, low sound levels, and smooth flight even at high speeds. External visibility for pilots is also highly prioritized with a large windshield, lateral and floor level windows that allow them to see below the aircraft when landing. This is combined with the visibility provided by the aircrafts’ cameras that can be displayed one of the four multi-functional displays in the cockpit. Helionix, Airbus Helicopters’ digital avionics suite, further contributes to the aircraft’s safety by significantly reducing pilot workload. Presenting the right information at the right time, along with the H160’s integrated automatic functions, allows the pilot to concentrate on the mission at hand.

Avolon, the international aircraft leasing company, has reported the delivery of one Airbus Boeing B787-9 aircraft to Virgin Atlantic. This is the fourth Avolon aircraft on lease to Virgin Atlantic.
