Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the closure of Terminal one at Dubai International Airport for the previous fifteen months, Dubai Airports, the airport’s operator, remains optimistic that demand will bounce back rather than trickle back as the terminal prepares to be reopened this Thursday.

Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports CEO commented to Reuters news agency that: "People think it will trickle back. I don't believe that. I believe it will be an absolute flood of demand when people get the confidence to travel again." Dubai International Airport is one of the world's busiest airports and could well see over 40 million passengers this year if it was "really, really lucky," Griffiths said, though it was more likely to be between 24.7 million and 34.3 million.

"We're comfortable with that mid-range of about 28 ," Griffiths added. He also anticipates that with the airport likely to be serving 90% of its 260 global destinations by the fall, as opposed to today’s 63%, the reopening of Terminal 1 could see the creation of 3,500 jobs. However, there will still be certain restrictions applicable to passengers flying from South Africa, Nigeria, and India.

In the first quarter of 2021, the airport handled 5.75 million passengers, which equated to a 67.8%t drop on numbers compared to the same period in 2020, while in 2020 the airport dealt with 25.9 million passengers in total, a drop of 70% compared to 86.4 million in 2019. The opening of Terminal 1 will see 66 foreign airlines relocating to Terminals 1 and 2, while Emirates will continue to operate from Terminal 3. Al Maktoum International Airport will remain closed for the time being.

Deutsche Aircraft has selected GKN Aerospace for D328eco’s empennage production. The global Tier 1 aerospace supplier is one of the market leaders in aerostructures and is aligned with Deutsche Aircraft in advanced technologies.

D328eco is a new 40-seat turbo prop aircraft being developed by Deutsche Aircraft. Based on the proven D328 platform, the D328eco not only inherits the aerodynamic advanced D328 performance, but also will focus on sustainability for both product and production. In the development of D328eco, Deutsche Aircraft looks for reliable and environmentally conscious partners.

Deutsche Aircraft will be working with GKN Aerospace on the development of the empennage and the industrialization of this airframe main assembly, which includes the rear fuselage and the vertical- and horizontal tail plane fin. The empennage will feature advanced lightweight solutions involving state-of-the-art composite technology. Working in partnership, both businesses are committed to continuously improve the environmental performance of the platform.

The program, currently in concept design phase, is focused on the maturity of new systems and materials required to support the aircraft industrialization. The regional aircraft program continues to be led out of Oberpfaffenhofen airport near Munich and planning work has commenced on establishment of the FAL at Leipzig Halle Airport.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, will launch flights to Vienna this summer from July 18, 2021. The service will operate twice weekly using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Embraer’s Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions (Eve) and leading vertiport company Skyports have formed a partnership to develop urban air mobility (UAM) solutions, with a focus on vehicle-vertiport operations in early adopter markets in Asia and the Americas.
|
The agreement extends the relationship between the two organizations, which began in early 2020 while Eve was incubated at EmbraerX. As UAM nears initial launch in multiple markets around the world, the companies will use Eve’s zero-emission and low noise eVTOL vehicle, Urban Air Traffic Management (UATM) software, and UAM services to develop a concept of operations that will inform operational procedures, as well as vehicle and services development. Together, the companies aim to rapidly advance and disrupt the industry by bringing Eve’s innovative eVTOL vehicle to the market, where passengers will experience the future of electric transportation and a new model of sustainable mobility.

As part of this collaboration, Skyports will contribute to a market readiness exercise and a vehicle concept of operation study in Brazil, furthering Eve’s development of the UAM market in the region. The organizations have already worked together developing a concept of operations with Airservices Australia and are currently collaborating to develop UAM operations in the U.K.

Australian independent regional and domestic airline REX Airlines (RAL) has signed an agreement to purchase one CFM56 engine from MTU Maintenance Lease Services B.V., a subsidiary of MTU Aero Engines, on June 21, 2021.
|
This engine will enhance RAL’s existing capability in maintaining better aircraft supportability for its fleet of Boeing 737-800NG jets. This will be a positive step forward in strengthening RAL’s position in the domestic aviation landscape in Australia.

Jackson Square Aviation (JSA) has completed its sixth Boeing 737-800 aircraft delivery on lease to Transavia France (TVF). This delivery completes the final part of a six aircraft long-term lease package transaction with the airline. Following a transition and modification program to align the aircraft with the TVF specifications, JSA has sequentially delivered these six aircraft between January and June 2021.
