The first urban flight of the Volocopter in Europe has taken place in Stuttgart. The flight was the highlight of the two-day event "Vision Smart City - Experience mobility of the future today" around the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
|
In addition to technical innovations, sustainable traffic concepts for the mobility of the future have been presented. These included offers such as car sharing, electric vehicles and mobile concepts for the future.

Textron Aviation has opened an aircraft parts warehouse in Australia to support its fleet of business jets, turboprops and piston aircraft. The parts warehouse will be co-located at Essendon Fields Airport with Premiair Aviation Maintenance, a Textron Aviation Authorized Service Facility.
|
“Adding this new parts facility to Textron Aviation’s support capabilities increases its level of customer service for Beechcraft, Cessna and Hawker aircraft in the region,” said Paul Montauban, managing director of Premiair Aviation. “Customer Service is why our customers come to us, so
providing spare parts delivery – shipped the same day in most instances – is another way to ensure comprehensive support.”

The new Australia facility follows the recent expansion of Textron Aviation’s Singapore parts warehouse to better serve customers in the Asia-Pacific region.

Katri Harra-Salonen, Finnair’s Chief Digital Officer (CDO) will leave the company, and Tomi Pienimäki (Dr.Tech, MSc.Econ), has been appointed as Finnair Chief Digital Officer and a member of the Finnair Executive Board.
|
Katri Harra-Salonen will leave her position on September 30, 2019, and Tomi Pienimäki will start in his new role on October 1, 2019. Pienimäki currently serves as a member of the Board in Aallon Group. Previously, he has served as the CEO of Vincit and Jolla, and as the Chief Information Officer of Itella and Hackmann.

Spirit Airlines is the launch customer for Acro's new Series 6LC Economy Class seat. Spirit’s fleet is one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the U.S. and the airline operates more than 600 daily flights to 76 destinations in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.
|
The seat launch is part of the airline’s commitment to improve the passenger experience with a cabin redesign featuring new modern interiors and seating products. The new look cabins will enter service on Spirit’s linefit A320 aircraft in November 2019.
|
The Series 6LC seats will be upholstered in a soft touch matte-black synthetic leather with border stitching in Spirit’s signature yellow, providing a sleek and modern aesthetic. Seat features include an upper literature pocket and a sliding single leaf table with cup recess. Passenger comfort is improved with enhanced seat ergonomics, thicker cushioning and lumbar support and a seatback pre-reclined to 24 degrees. In addition, the middle seat will be an inch wider, and the exit row will gain over and inch of pre-recline.

Contrail Aviation Support, a worldwide supplier of surplus and aftermarket commercial jet engine components as well as asset leasing and acquisitions, has appointed commercial aircraft marketing executive Mark Shaw, who has 35 years of industry experience, as Vice President of Regional Marketing - EMEA of Contrail Aviation Leasing.

In his new role, Shaw will be responsible for airline marketing, business development strategy and revenue-generation initiatives in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. These initiatives include targeting mid-life/end-of-life narrow-body A320/B737 family aircraft and associated engine assets for acquisition — either naked or with leases attached.

Most recently, Shaw served as Marketing Director at Stratos (Monaco) where he was responsible for business development and key airline client relationships within Stratos’ commercial aircraft finance,
advisory and aircraft sales/leasing activities.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an amendment to Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) No. ST04009NY for installation of AerSale®’s AerTrak® system on Boeing 737 Classic series aircraft to comply with the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Operations rule, a critical part of the agency’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).

Beginning January 1, 2020, the FAA has mandated that aircraft operating in airspace defined by 14 CFR § 91.225 must be equipped with an ADS-B Out system that meets the minimum performance requirements of 14 CFR § 91.227. In 2018, the FAA approved AerTrak for Boeing 737 NG series aircraft (ST04009NY) and Boeing 757-200 series aircraft (ST04011NY).

ADS-B provides enhanced navigational accuracy using precise tracking via global positioning
satellite (GPS) signals. Reducing risk and improving safety, the technology increases navigational coverage, especially in remote areas beyond radar range. Additionally, ADS-B enables more direct flight plans, thereby saving time, costs, and reducing emissions.

mba designed MX4 to support financial institutions, airlines, aircraft lessors, and other clients in the aviation industry in gaining an in-depth understanding of cashflows associated with maintenance reserves or end-of-lease compensation by detailing all inflows, outflows, and maintenance events over the projection period. David Tokoph, mba’s President and CEO, stated that “MX4 puts the tools for analyzing maintenance cashflows at the user’s fingertips allowing for a detailed view at any stage of a transaction.”

Embraer has delivered its first E195-E2, the biggest of the three members of the E-Jets E2 family of commercial aircraft. The recipients are AerCap, the aircraft leasing company and Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S.A.
|
Azul is the global launch operator for the E195-E2 and has placed firm orders for 51 of the type. The airline will receive another five aircraft in 2019.

Fiji Airways’ first A350 XWB has rolled out of the Airbus paint shop in Toulouse featuring the airline’s signature livery. The aircraft, an A350-900 leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprises, will be the first of its type to be operated by an airline in the South-Pacific region.
|
The aircraft will now proceed to the final phase of the assembly process, with the installation of engines followed by ground and flight tests, before delivery to Fiji Airways in Q4.
|
The aircraft will be configured with 33 full lie-flat Business Class and 301 Economy Class seats. The aircraft will be deployed to enhance existing long-haul services from Fiji to Australia and the U.S., and to provide the opportunity to open additional routes.

In an internal memo seen by Reuters news agency, Cathay Pacific is in the process of instigating cost-cutting measures to counteract the slump in demand from mainland China as well as the general lack of passenger numbers wishing to travel to the former British colony as a consequence of the civil unrest Hong Kong is currently experiencing.
|
The flag-carrying airline has been hit harder than most major corporations operating in Hong Kong; passenger numbers for this August were 11.3 percent lower than for August 2018. According to the memo issued by the new Chief Executive, Augustus Tang, executives should examine all spending with a focus on cost cutting. In addition, Tang made it clear that there would be no additional hiring of staff to replace departing employees in non-flying positions unless approval is given by the spending control committee.

Cathay Pacific had only just returned to profitability for the January-June period since 2016 after the successful implementation of a three-year turnaround plan and had predicted that the second half of the year should be even better owing to seasonality. Jefferies analyst Andrew Lee has predicted the airline could swing to a US$124.1 million loss for the second half of the year. The carrier has also suffered from a reasonable degree of internal turmoil at the top after former CEO Rupert Hogg unexpectedly quit last month, while Chairman John Slosar resigned last week.
