Recaro Aircraft Seating has been selected by KLM Cityhopper, KLM’s regional carrier, to outfit the 21 Embraer 195-E2 aircraft they recently ordered. Each aircraft will have a hybrid layout of Recaro BL3710 and SL3710 seats, and the first 195-E2 is slated for delivery in the first quarter of 2021.

The unique cabin layout of the plane reflects Recaro and KLM’s dedication to reducing the carbon footprint, as it will optimize weight efficiency while still ensuring passenger comfort.
|
With 132 seats on board, the 195-E2 will be the largest aircraft in KLM Cityhopper’s fleet and will help accommodate growth. The partnership between these aviation industry innovators will only further enhance KLM’s sustainability initiative, “Fly Responsibly,” and the commitment of Recaro to the research and development of more efficient seats.

Deutsche Lufthansa (Lufthansa) has been hit by a proposed fine of US$6.4 million by the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority after the agency accused it of operating approximately 900 flights into Philadelphia and San Diego without the proper approval. According to a press release by the FAA, Lufthansa were fully aware of the fact it lacked the appropriate authorization. “Lufthansa is fully cooperating with the FAA on this matter and will be addressing the regulatory issues involved with the agency,” the company said in an emailed statement, adding that there were no FAA allegations that safety or security was compromised on the flights.

The FAA made it clear that under its regulations, foreign carriers operating in the U.S. must create detailed operations specifications and follow any procedures contained within them. Lufthansa’s operations specifications didn’t permit it to fly to San Diego and Philadelphia at the time of the violations. Lufthansa has 30 days in which to appeal the fine and it is not unusual for carriers to negotiate lower fines once the FAA has filed a complaint.

Scandinavian carrier SAS has taken delivery of its first A350-900, becoming the newest operator of this latest generation, highly efficient widebody aircraft. The airline has a total of eight A350-900 aircraft on order and operates an Airbus fleet of 68 aircraft (51 A320 Family, 17 A330 and A340 Family aircraft). In the coming years, as part of an extensive fleet modernisation, SAS will take delivery of 54 additional A320neo Family aircraft and the remaining seven A350-900s through direct purchase and lease contracts.

SAS’s A350-900 features a modern and highly comfortable three-class cabin layout with 300 seats: 40 “SAS Business” class, 32 “SAS Plus” class and 228 “SAS Go” class seats. On January 28, 2020, the airline will start to operate the new aircraft on its Copenhagen-Chicago long-haul route, followed by other international destinations including North America and Asia.

Liebherr LAMC Aviation (Changsha), the joint venture between the Chinese company LAMC (AVIC Landing Gear Advanced Manufacturing) and German-based Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg, have delivered the 100th landing gear strut from Changsha for COMAC's twin-engine regional jet ARJ21 program.

Since the first delivery ceremony for the ARJ21's landing gear struts took place in 2016, a lot has happened at Liebherr LAMC Aviation (Changsha). The successful joint venture is not only celebrating the milestone of the 100th landing gear strut delivered to COMAC, but it is also on course to ramp up production to 90 landing gears struts per year by 2020.

In addition to the ARJ21 program, LLA is also home to the assembly line for COMAC's narrow-body twinjet C919 landing gear struts. The ceremony for the first delivery of the C919 landing gear strut
for flight test aircraft 104 from this facility occurred in 2018. The company is set to ramp up production to 145 landing gear struts per year by 2025, and its first delivery of 2 ship-sets
(or 6 struts) for series production is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2020. COMAC plans to deliver the first C919 to its customer in 2021.

Lockheed Martin has appointed Steve Froelich as the vice president of Rotary and Mission Systems operations for Australia and New Zealand an Programme Executive for AIR6500. He will be responsible for business performance and organisational transformation and will join the local leadership team to build a foundation for future growth in the region.

A critical component of the future strategy will be leadership of Lockheed Martin’s efforts related to the AIR6500 programme, which will provide an even greater level of capability and integration across the Australian Defence Force (ADF). This transformational capability will require a 5th generation, multi-domain technical solution. It will also require a strong sovereign team with robust, trusted partnerships across multiple military services, large companies, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

BAA Training, one of the TOP 3 biggest independent aviation training centres in Europe, has announced that it will expand its Ab Initio flight school. Currently operating in Lithuania and Spain, the Academy adds one more flight base in Spain and expands its training infrastructure.
|
Providing Ab Initio training since 2009, and collaborating with major airlines for cadet training programs since 2016, BAA Training currently has over 310 students at its Ab Initio school. Last year, in addition to the headquarters flight base in Lithuania, the Academy opened its first flight base at Lleida-Alguaire International Airport in Spain. The expansion and development of the new flight base was executed in order to ensure the year-round flight training.

In 2019 the company became a partner of Turkish Airlines for the cadet training programs supplementing already ongoing programs with such airlines as Wizz Air, Avion Express, SmartLynx. In addition, pilot assessment for cadet program with LOT Polish Airlines has been started. Therefore, with the continuingly growing student number BAA Training will add the second flight base in Spain at Castellón Airport.

Along with the infrastructure expansion, BAA Training is now supplementing its fleet with additional aircraft. With up to €6 million investment, BAA Training is set to expand its Ab Initio fleet by more than 70% in 2020 and invest additional €10 million in 2021.

ST Engineering has released that its Aerospace arm, has secured a 15-year engine Maintenance-By-the-Hour (MBHTM) contract from Japan Transocean Air.
|
Under the agreement, ST Engineering will provide an integrated suite of engine MRO solutions that include off-wing maintenance support, on-wing services and technical support to the airline’s
Boeing 737NG fleet. These services will be provided over a period of 15 years starting from 2020 at the Group’s engine MRO facilities in Singapore.

Japan Transocean Air is a subsidiary of the Japan Airlines Group, which ST Engineering has been a longstanding partner of in MRO solutions, from integrated component services for their
Boeing 737-800 fleet to airframe maintenance for their Boeing 737NG fleet.

The first two out of four P-72Bs ordered by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza have been handed over during an official ceremony held at Leonardo’s Caselle Torinese facility. Deliveries will be completed by 2022.
|
Lucio Valerio Cioffi, Aircraft Division MD at Leonardo, said: "We are proud that Guardia di Finanza has chosen to integrate our ATR 72MP into its naval airborne capabilities. This aircraft fully represents Leonardo's technological capabilities and it combines reliability, low operating costs in addition to the ATR 72-600 regional passenger transport benefits.”

Designated as P-72B, the aircraft will be integrated into the aeronautical capabilities of Guardia di Finanza, within the framework of the multirole tasks assigned to the operator. The Guardia di Finanza is the only law enforcement agency with general jurisdiction capable of exercising incisive and constant supervisory activities along the entire nation’s coastal development and in international waters, carried out also due to the advanced technological equipment installed on its own aircraft.

Specific latest generation capabilities embedded for the first time into the ATR 72MP will be useful to support dedicated surveillance activities entrusted to the Guardia di Finanza. The ATR 72MP will operate in air-sea patrol and research missions, using on-board sensors to identify, even discreetly, sensitive objects, monitor their behaviour, acquire evidence, and lead the intervention of naval units and land patrols.

Aircraft remarketing specialist Airstream International Group has arranged the sale of a Fokker F28 Mk0100 aircraft on behalf of Trade Air, Croatia. The aircraft, serial number 11407, was sold to Fly Wings.
|
Airstream continues to build on its strong relationship with Trade Air, having provided advisory services for the purchase of an A320 for the airline last year, as well as being mandated to source a second A320.
|
Airstream provides aircraft sales, leasing and financing services for an international client base that has included airlines, government organisations, lessors, investors and financial institutions as well as part out organisations. Now in its 30th year of trading, Airstream has successfully completed transactions involving more than 625 aircraft.

CDB Aviation, a wholly owned Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., (CDB Leasing), has delivered the first of three Airbus A330-343 aircraft to its new airline customer in Turkey, Onur Air. The remaining two aircraft are expected to deliver in the second quarter of 2020.
|
Onur Air will utilize the additional widebody aircraft to boost its all-Airbus fleet, while supporting wet-lease, scheduled and charter operations, both domestically and internationally to destinations including Europe, Russia, and the Middle East.
