The Saxon aircraft construction supplier Cotesa has been taken over by a Chinese group. A hanging game for companies and employees is over: The supplier from Saxony wants to grow among the new owners.

The investors are backed by a Chinese state-owned corporation. The transaction has also prompted the Ministry of Economics. To date, Cotesa has supplied Airbus and Boeing with carbon fiber components. Through the commitment of AT&M (Advanced Technology & Materials), a subsidiary of the state-owned China Iron & Steel Research Institute Group, the company gains access to the Chinese market. In the future, the Saxons also want to supply the state-owned Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac. AT&M has announced the construction of a new plant in China.

At the end of December it had become known that the Federal Ministry of Economics was reviewing the transaction in accordance with the stricter Foreign Trade and Payments Act. The release took place in mid-April according to company information.

Héroux-Devtek an international manufacturer of aerospace products, has signed a 4-year agreement with AAR Corporation (AAR).
|
Under the terms of the agreement Héroux-Devtek will perform the as-needed re-manufacturing of landing gear assemblies of the KC-135 aircraft, the manufacturing of spare parts for the C-130 and KC-135 aircraft and the manufacturing of other landing gear components, all in support of a contract AAR was recently awarded from the US Air Force.

The contract’s total value could exceed CAD$65 million.

Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) has acquired all of the aircraft assets owned by Aldus Aviation Fund (AAF).
|
Since 2016, NAC has managed 29 E-jets owned by AAF which are currently on lease to 9 airlines including HOP!, Flybe and Royal Air Maroc. NAC took ownership of the aircraft assets through the acquisition of all E-notes in ATLAS 2014-1 Limited.

The acquisition brings NAC’s owned fleet to 413 aircraft.

AHS BERLIN Aviation Handling Services GmbH and AeroGround Berlin GmbH, two ground handling companies, have agreed on a long-term strategic cooperation at Berlin Airports in an attempt to create synergies and to strengthen their market position.
|
Among independent providers of passenger handling and operations services, AHS leads the market in Germany, operating at Berlin’s Tegel and Schoenefeld airports.
|
AeroGround Berlin also holds the licenses for ground handling services at both airports, as well as the new Berlin-Brandenburg airport, focusing on land and airside aircraft and baggage handling.
|
Both companies operate in an area where margins are small, and competition is intense from a global perspective.
According to Tays Breckerbohm, Managing Director, AHS: “Our main focus is on cost optimization and joint sales activities. In addition, together with AeroGround we can now cover the entire range of ground handling services.”
Christian Stoschek, Managing Director of AeroGround Berlin, confirmed that: “We are very pleased about the future steps with a successful and professional partner like AHS at our side. The synergy effects will strengthen our two companies in Berlin.”

Tegel is Berlin’s principal international airport, handling just over 20.5 million passengers in 2017. It is a base for EasyJet and Germania. Schoenefeld is Berlin’s secondary international airport, locates 18km southwest of the city. Originally the major civil airport in East Berlin, in 2017 it accommodated 12.9 million passengers. It is a base for Condor, easyJet and Ryanair.

United Airlines (UAL) has reported that Gerry Laderman has been named acting chief financial officer. He succeeds Andrew Levy, who has decided to leave United. UAL will immediately begin a search for a new chief financial officer.

Laderman currently serves as senior vice president of finance, procurement and treasurer and as a member of the senior executive leadership team. He has held legal and financial positions of increasing responsibility at the company for nearly 30 years and will be responsible for continuing to execute United's overall financial strategy, including cost management, capital allocation and balance sheet optimization.

A Cubana de Aviación (Cubana) Boeing 737 carrying 104 passengers and six crew crashed shortly after take-off from Havana’s Jose Martí airport, Cuba, on Friday. 107 passengers and crew were killed, while three female passengers who survived the crash, but who were critically injured, were taken to Galixto Garcia Hospital in Havana.

The plane was on a domestic flight from Havana to Holguín and all but five of the passengers are understood to be Cuban, with Argentina’s foreign ministry confirming that two of its citizens had been killed in the accident. The Cuban Council of Churches announced that 20 clergy members of an evangelical church were among the dead.
|
The plane, a Boeing 737-201 was built in 1979 and had been leased less than a month ago by Cubana, Cuba’s state airline, from the small Mexican charter company Aerolineas Damojh, also going by the name Global Air. Aerolineas Damojh was solely responsible for the aircraft’s maintenance. As no Cubana pilots were certified to fly the Boeing jet, the company had hired Mexican crew on the understanding they were fully trained and certified by the proper authorities.
Cubana has a good safety record, but over recent months it had taken a number of its planes out of service owing to maintenance problems and has been hiring charter aircraft from other companies.

Cuban Transportation Minister Adel Yzquierdo Rodriguez confirmed that the jet's "black box" voice recorder had been recovered and that a U.S. request for investigators from Boeing to travel to the island had been granted by Cuban officials. Miguel Diaz-Canel, Cuba’s president said a special commission had been formed to establish the cause of the crash.

This is the third fatal air crash in Cuba this decade. In April 2017, a military Antonov AN-26 turboprop crashed killing all eight on board, while in 2010 a commercial Aero Caribbean ATR 72 crashed killing sixty-eight passengers and crew. Cuba’s worst-ever plane crash occurred in 1989 when a Soviet-made Ilyushin-62M passenger plane came down near Havana, killing all 126 people on board.

BOC Aviation has delivered its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to its newest customer, Corendon Airlines, based in Turkey. The aircraft is the first delivery of the Company’s 737 MAX family aircraft.
|
“This delivery represents a number of significant milestones for us, with the aircraft being the first addition of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 to our fleet, the first Boeing 737 MAX 8 to be delivered into Turkey and our first delivery to Corendon Airlines,” said Steven Townend, Chief Commercial Officer (Europe, Americas, Africa), BOC Aviation.

Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) regional wing, SilkAir, is to undergo a significant investment programme to upgrade its cabin products as part of a multi-year initiative that will ultimately see it merged into SIA.
|
The programme will comprise investment of more than SG$100 million to upgrade the wholly owned subsidiary’s cabins with new lie-flat seats in Business Class, and the installation of seat-back in-flight entertainment systems in both Business Class and Economy Class. This will ensure closer product and service consistency across the SIA Group’s full-service network.
|
Aircraft cabin upgrades are expected to start in 2020 due to lead times required by seat suppliers, including to complete certification processes. The merger will take place only after a sufficient number of aircraft have been fitted with the new cabin products. Specific details will be announced progressively as the programme develops and timelines are finalised.
|
Consistent with ongoing efforts to optimise the SIA Group’s network, there will also be transfers of routes and aircraft between the different airlines in the portfolio.
|
SilkAir is the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, operating a fleet of 11 Airbus A320-family aircraft and 22 Boeing 737-800 and 737 MAX 8 aircraft. It is currently transitioning to an all-737 fleet, and serves 49 destinations in 16 countries.

Alaska Air Group has reported April operational results on a consolidated basis for its mainline operations flown by subsidiaries Alaska Airlines and Virgin America and for its regional flying operated by subsidiary Horizon Air and third-party regional carriers SkyWest Airlines and Peninsula Airlines.
|
On a combined basis for all operations, Air Group reported a 5.8% increase in traffic on an 8.7% increase in capacity compared to April 2017. Load factor decreased 2.3 points to 84.3%.

Finnair’s CEO, Pekka Vauramo, has given notice of his resignation from the company to join Metso Corporation as their new CEO. He will leave Finnair at the latest in November 2018. The search for Vauramo’s successor starts immediately.
|
