Lockheed Martin announces manufacturing locations for successor to the MRTT- the LMXT

Lockheed Martin has announced that the new strategic tanker aircraft, used primarily for military purposes, will be manufactured at locations in Alabama and Georgia. The LMXT is a tanker conversion of the Airbus A330 which is manufactured at the Airbus plant in Mobile, Alabama. The conversion itself will be carried out by Lockheed Martin Aeronautic’s Marietta, Georgia facility, which is currently responsible for final production of the C-130J Super Hercules and centre wing assembly lines for the F-35 Lightning II.

The MRTT was the focus of attention back in 2018 when an MoA was signed between Airbus and Lockheed Martin to explore aerial-refueling solutions as well as refuelling capacity shortfalls for the US Army. The LMXT is a result of this MOA, offering a proven airframe with distinct US Air Force-only capabilities built by a highly skilled American workforce in two states that lead the nation in aerospace manufacturing. The expansion of work by both Lockheed Martin and Airbus in Alabama and Georgia is a natural progression for the companies, with each having deep roots in both states.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 114,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.

Diamond Aircraft chooses PT6A-25C engine to power new DART-750 aircraft

Pratt & Whitney Canada, a business unit of Pratt & Whitney, has released that Diamond Aircraft has selected the PT6A-25C engine to power its new DART-750 aircraft, an all-carbon fibre tandem turboprop trainer equipped with state-of-the-art avionics.

Known for its broad power-range, dependability and proven performance in all flying conditions and environments, the PT6A engine family is in a class of its own having flown more than 425 million hours, building upon the experience gained within the entire Pratt & Whitney Canada fleet at over 900 million flying hours. The PT6A has seen 120 enhancements made in the past 10 years alone and more than 50,000 engines have been produced: 25,000 of them still flying.

“The PT6A-25C is a proven engine that is already certified, allowing us to target 2023 for the basic EASA civil certification of the DART-750,” said Liqun (Frank) Zhang, Chief Executive Officer, Diamond Aircraft. “We see huge potential for the aircraft in the government training market and we believe the DART-750 is the perfect choice for the future basic training of pilots.”

Jetstream Aviation Capital, the largest global owner of Saab 2000 aircraft, has chosen Thomas Global Systems’ TFD-4100 LCD flight display to upgrade its Saab 2000 flight decks. Robison Helicopter sees strong increase in 2021 orders

In 2021 Robinson Helicopter saw a significant increase in aircraft sales, more than 450 confirmed orders, the highest the company has seen since 2011. For the first time, R66 orders surpassed Robinson’s long-standing top seller, the R44 Raven II.

“We are pleased to see stronger sales particularly with the R66 which has clearly proven itself as a market leader,” said President Kurt Robinson noting that while sales were strong, production was a challenge. “Although overall production for 2021 was better than 2020, we fell short of our target. Our number one focus for 2022 is to put the pandemic behind us and to increase aircraft production and deliveries."

Nuseed and bp enter into strategic agreement to accelerate market adoption of Nuseed Carinata as sustainable low-carbon biofuel feedstock

Nuseed has entered into a long-term strategic offtake and market development agreement with BP Products North America (bp), an affiliate of BP, that will see bp, or its affiliates, purchase Nuseed Carinata oil that it plans to process or sell into growing markets for the production of sustainable biofuels.

Nuseed Carinata is a non-food cover crop that can be used to produce low-carbon biofuel feedstock that is independently certified, sustainable and scalable.

Increased global demand for biofuels is being driven by the need to access sustainable sources of energy to help achieve global greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.

The agreement is for an initial 10-year term and will see Nuseed continue to develop and expand its existing network of growers, channel and supply chain partners to deliver Carinata oil to bp or its affiliates, with key steps of crop production independently audited and certified. The Carinata oil will be processed by bp or affiliates through its bio refining footprint and also sold into growing markets for the production of sustainable biofuels, utilizing the global reach of bp’s Trading and Shipping (T&S) team to accelerate market adoption of Nuseed Carinata as a sustainable biofuel feedstock.

Nuseed is currently increasing commercial production in Argentina and planning expansion programmes in South America and the United States. Initial research and market development programmes are also underway in Europe and Australia. bp expects to initially target low-carbon biofuel markets in Europe and North America.
