Italy’s new flag carrier, ITA Airways, signs lease agreements for 12 brand new Airbus aircraft with AerCap

Italy’s new flag-carrying airline Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A. (ITA Airways) has signed lease agreements with AerCap for ten brand new Airbus A320neo and two bran new Airbus A330neo aircraft which will be scheduled to deliver from 2023 through 2024.

The deal expands the newly formed carrier’s all-airbus fleet, save for one Embraer E190 which is on wet lease from German Airways and used for flights to London City, Luxembourg and Geneva Airports. ITA Airways took over 18 A319-100s, 31 A320-200s and eight A330-200s from the previous and now defunct Italian flag-carrying airline Alitalia. Once all orders have been fulfilled its fleet will extend from the current 57 aircraft to 86 aircraft. ITA Airways served 35 destinations as of January 2022 and plans to serve 74 destinations by the end of 2025.

Peter Anderson, Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, said, “We are very pleased to expand our relationship with ITA Airways through the lease of these twelve advanced-technology Airbus A320neo and A330neo aircraft. These aircraft will enable ITA Airways to expand its network, whilst advancing its commitment to maintain an environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient fleet”.

Francesco Presicce, Chief Technology Officer of ITA Airways, said: "The integration of these new aircraft is perfectly in line with the Company's fleet plan. This agreement represents a further step in our strategy of building a new environmental-friendly fleet with leading-edge technologies which will optimize efficiency, quality of service and significantly reduce the environmental impact”.

Leonardo confirms solid position in world helicopter civil market

Following the success at Heli-Expo 2022 in Dallas, TX (8-10 March), Leonardo confirmed its strong position in the commercial helicopter market announcing further advancements with recent sales of 23 aircraft of various models to several operators across Europe, North America and Latin America, primarily for VIP/corporate transport, energy support and search and rescue.

Total sales include 15 AW139 intermediate twins, three AW169s light intermediate, three AW109 GrandNew light twins, one AW119Kx single engine and one AW189 super medium twin-engine helicopter. Combined orders are valued at nearly €256 million, with deliveries between 2022 and 2023. Beyond sales, recent months also marked the introduction of new services offered by newly accepted aircraft in various countries.

Norwegian removes face masks requirement on all flights

Norwegian has released that the temporary requirement to wear face masks on board all flights will be lifted as of today, Monday April 4.

For the first time since June 17th, 2020, the mandatory requirement of wearing a face mask will be lifted on every flight across the Norwegian network as a result of revised guidance across Europe. As countries reduce or completely remove travel restrictions, thanks to extensive vaccination programmes, passengers will now be able to choose if they wish to wear a face mask or not.

As of February 12th, when the requirements were first lifted across Scandinavia, the company has noticed increased passenger demand and optimism in regard to booking ahead for both leisure and business travel . The company is confident that travel will recover and thrive during the summer months ahead.

Goshawk delivers Airbus A320 to Trade Air

Goshawk, the Dublin-based aircraft lessor, has announced the delivery of one Airbus A320 aircraft to Trade Air, the charter and scheduled carrier operating from Zagreb, Croatia. The A320 was successfully delivered on Wednesday, March 30th.

The delivery of the first aircraft by Goshawk to Trade Air represents a significant milestone for the business.

Stephen Murphy, Head of Airline Marketing at Goshawk said: “We are delighted to begin our relationship with Trade Air by delivering our first A320-200 aircraft. This placement demonstrates our continuing confidence in the aviation industry as it emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic and adapts to the rapidly evolving geopolitical situation.”

FL Technics invests in Hanover-based wheels and brakes business

FL Technics will enter a segment of wheels and brakes maintenance as the group launches a dedicated business line and a specialised shop with a highly experienced team of engineers and technicians in Germany, Hanover International Airport.

Dedicated facility for servicing commercial aircraft wheels and brakes, as well as tires and components, started operations under FL Technics name as of April 4 and will serve as a support hub within the global network of groups’ MRO markets, ranging from the Americas to Asia-Pacific.

The expansion of this business areas is a natural continuity of current FL Technics groups’ operations, including a global integrated supply chain and the largest independent line maintenance network with more than 70 stations in service worldwide. Established infrastructure and pool of partners create a perfect ecosystem to develop operations that create new prospects as well as the ability to tailor FL Technics’ solutions based on market needs to both lessors and operators.

Pegasus Airlines announces change of leadership

Mehmet T. Nane, who has been serving as CEO of Pegasus Airlines since 2016, became a Member of the Board of Directors at its Ordinary Meeting of the General Assembly held on March 31, 2022, and was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Board (Managing Director) following the decision by the Board of Directors.

Furthermore, Güliz Öztürk, who has been serving as the company's CCO since 2010, will succeed Nane as CEO and thus becoming the first female CEO in the air transport industry in the history of Turkish civil aviation. Nane and Öztürk will officially begin their new roles on May 1, 2022.
