At one point on Monday the share value of Bombardier Inc, the Canadian business jet manufacturer, fell by up to 17.4% after workers on the critical Challenger business jet programme downed tools for a day. According to REUTERS news agency, the union representing approximately 1,800 Bombardier workers, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, is trying to negotiate a more favourable pay deal after 76% of the workers rejected a five-year contract offer which included a pay increase of 2.5%.

Canada’s inflation rate hit a 31-year high at 6.8% in April. The union has confirmed that staff will return to work on Tuesday, June 14, as negotiations continue and by mid-morning Monday had recovered to an 8.1% drop in value as the company's planned consolidation of Class A and B shares took effect. The benchmark Canada share index (CATSX) had fallen by 2.63% by the end of the day, while the Bombardier share price (BBD-B.TO) recovered to a loss of 4.92%. The Bombardier Challenger programme is vital to the success of Bombardier, accounting for over one-third of the company’s plane deliveries during 2021.

Condor Flugdienst and Lufthansa Technik have signed a contract for the installation of Lufthansa Technik's newly developed HeatNOW floor heating system in the A320 aircraft fleet.

Cold spots in aircraft are a well-known problem: while the passenger cabin is zone-controlled to comfortable temperatures at outside temperatures of -52 °C, it can get as cold as -10 °C in the galleys during a flight, especially in the lower door areas, due to the sometimes very cold air flow created by the differential pressure.
|
These conditions not only create an uncomfortable working environment for crew members; other problems can also arise from the potential freezing. In situations where an aircraft is operating in very cold weather, the temperature differences cause condensate to collect on the door seal and mechanical parts, freezing there and potentially preventing the doors from opening easily in icing conditions on the ground.
|
HeatNOW is a heating system based on a patented conductive coating that effectively prevents the formation of cold areas in the aircraft. The heating pad consists of a heating layer between two additional protective layers. Connected to the on-board power, the electrically conductive layer acts as a resistor and heats itself in a self-regulating manner. The power can be regulated in various stages as required. HeatNOW thus provides an even and homogeneous heating of the floor areas.

Conventional solutions, such as standard heated floor panels, not only have high failure rates due to their design, they are also expensive and less efficient, as they can sometimes only be repaired at great expense. The ultra-thin and lightweight HeatNOW system, on the other hand, can be installed easily and flexibly on almost any desired floor panel, in galleys and or in seating areas, and guarantees high performance with great reliability. HeatNOW is EASA-certified for the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft family.

The certification can easily be extended to other aircraft types.

Elix Aviation, the international regional aircraft leasing company, is pleased to confirm the delivery of two ATR 72-500s, MSN 748 and MSN 760, on lease to Brazil-based airline VoePass. With these two deliveries, Elix Aviation continues to expand its leasing and asset management services in Brazil.

VoePass, is based at Dr. Leite Lopes Airport, Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo Region, Brazil. The company was founded in 1995 and has been operating regional services throughout Brazil. VoePass has 1,100 employees and covers 39 different cities in Brazil operating in code share agreement with both GOL and LATAM. Additionally, VoePass also operates six aircraft under a CPA agreement with GOL Airlines. VoePass is an ANAC & IOSA certified airline and ANAC & EASA MRO certified. The company operates a total of 13 ATR aircraft.

Andrew Newell has taken over the role of General Manager at Bii.aero, an expanding provider of aircraft parts and services for the aviation sector. After two years as Bii’s Sales Director, Newell is bringing his highly specialised expertise of consignment stock management and the commercial aircraft interiors sector to the role.

Newell is planning to build up the size and capabilities of the company, firstly by reconfiguring all the warehouses. “We are investing significantly in our stock levels to accommodate the rising demand of Bii’s component support services. All the new inventory coming in will add a constant feed of activity into the business for the next few years and spearhead Bii’s growth trajectory.

NHIndustries has signed an innovative NH90 support contract with the NATO agency NAHEMA, acting as the contracting authority on behalf of the Direction générale de l'armement (the French Armament General Directorate) and the Direction de la maintenance aéronautique (the French Aeronautics Support Directory) for the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and the BAAINBww for the German Ministry of Defence. This contract will improve the availability rates of the NH90 naval (NFH) and tactical (TTH) helicopters.

The NH90 Operational Support (NOS) contract, which will be performance based, will see both nations delegating a major part of their logistics and maintenance activity to NHIndustries, enabling them to focus on their operations. The agreement was also designed in a way that allows additional nations to join at any time.
|
Through the contract, NHIndustries takes full responsibility for ensuring the continuous flow of spare parts to France and Germany through a flight-hour-based service. It will manage the inventories of both nations, while also allocating resources to ensure that scheduled inspections and maintenance run seamlessly.
|
Additionally, the contract includes a variety of catalogue services that can be activated as required by the entire community or by individual nations, thus allowing maximum flexibility. The agreement covers five years of support with two optional extensions of five years each, for a total duration of 15 years. It will serve up to 100 NH90s in France and up to 131 NH90s in Germany.

Ampaire has been at the forefront of modern air mobility, having flown 481 miles nonstop from Perth, Scotland, to Exeter in Southwest England in August 2021 with its “Electric EEL” aircraft – a six-seat Cessna, modified with hybrid-electric propulsion. It is to date the longest flight by a commercial-sized, hybrid-electric aircraft.
