Airbus has announced that its first A321XLR (Xtra Long Range) has completed its first test flight after taking off from Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport at 11:05 hrs CEST for a flight which lasted around four hours and 35 minutes.
|
During the successful test flight, the aircraft’s flight controls, engines and main systems, including flight envelope protections, were tested by the crew at both low speed and high speed. On board were the two test pilots and three test engineers.
|
Philippe Mhun, Airbus EVP Programmes and Services commented: "This is a major milestone for the A320 family and its customers worldwide. With the A321XLR coming into service, airlines will be able to offer long-haul comfort on a single-aisle aircraft, thanks to its unique Airspace cabin. The A321XLR will open new routes with unbeatable economics and environmental performance."

The A321XLR, part of the A320-family of single-aisle aircraft, is the latest evolutionary step and offers a range of up to 4,700nm (8700 km), with 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, as well as reduced NOx emissions and noise. As of May 31, 2022 over 8,000 orders for the A320-family of aircraft had been accumulated, while current orders for the A321XLR stand at more than 500 aircraft from approximately 20 customers worldwide.

Recaro Aircraft Seating (Recaro) BL3710 seat was selected by Tibet Airlines to equip its new A319neo. Twenty-six shipsets have been ordered of the economy class seat and first delivery is planned September 2022. Tibet Airlines also selected the CL4710 to outfit the aircraft’s business-class cabin.

Master of the short- and medium-haul in the economy cabin, the BL3710 seat has been recognised for its ergonomic performance since entering the market in 2019. Weighing less than ten kilograms, the lightweight seat was developed to enhance comfort for passengers and minimise total cost of ownership for airlines.

3-D printing companies CRP Technology and CRP USA have signed an investment agreement with ITT, a diversified leading manufacturer of highly engineered critical components and customised technology solutions headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut (U.S.) and present in more than 35 countries.
|
According to the operation, ITT becomes part of the shareholder structure of CRP Technology and CRP USA, in line with its business plan for growth aimed at strategically investing and expanding in new technologies.
|
“This transaction will allow us to implement a very ambitious business plan, focused on growth both in the markets in which we are already present and in new markets with relative geographical expansion”, said Franco Cevolini, CEO of CRP Technology.

The investment complements ITT and serves the space, aerospace, defence, premium automotive and motorsports markets. It also enables ITT access to additive manufacturing excellence as the industry and number of applications continue to grow.

Satair, an Airbus Services company and a leader in the commercial aerospace aftermarket and Siemens S.A.S. have signed a contract to renew their exclusive distribution agreement covering airborne fire protection systems including smoke detectors for the Asia Pacific. In addition to spares distribution activities, Satair also operates an authorised repair station for Siemens in Singapore to support the customers in the Asia Pacific.

Siemens S.A.S. specialises in the field of designing, manufacturing and selling airborne fire protection systems. Satair and Siemens S.A.S. have been working in close collaboration since 1999 with a repair station in Singapore being established in 2006.

Honeywell has appointed AMETEK Singapore PTE, a brand of AMETEK MRO, as a Honeywell authorised repair centre (ARC) specifically for engine components on CF6-80s, PW2000s, PW4000s, V2500s, Trent 700s, Trent 800s and Trent 900s. This new licensing agreement will allow both Honeywell and AMETEK MRO to further penetrate into OEM-centric markets in Asia, serving customers that require OEM-only material through the utilisation of strategically located facilities in Singapore and the U.S.A.

AMETEK MRO has provided maintenance, repair, and overhaul services on these components for more than fourteen years. Emphasising the company’s strategy of providing best-in-class solutions for customers, David Corish, Divisional Vice President & General Manager of AMETEK Singapore PTE, said: “This agreement expands our long-standing relationship with Honeywell and strengthens our presence in the market by allowing us to better support our OEM-centric customers in the AsiaPAC region. Karman Space & Defense (Karman) backed by Dallas-based private equity firm Trive Capital (Trive), has partnered with Cornerstone Research Group (CRG) to acquire the MG Resin-family of technologies. The acquisition of MG Resins represents a significant expansion of Karman’s core competencies in integrated composite systems for space & defense applications and creates a leading manufacturer in the carbon/carbon market.

The senior leadership team at CRG developed the patented MG-family of resins to address the growing need for ultra-high temperature materials with higher char yields, improved processability and reduced cycle times. CRG designed an innovative solution that will enable the production of best-in-class, high-strength carbon-carbon parts at temperatures above 1200 °C.

West Star has named Matthew DeLellis as the new Chief Financial Officer. DeLellis will oversee all aspects of the company’s finance functions, including accounting, financial planning and analysis and tax, as well as preside over the purchasing, material control, legal, risk and compliance areas. He has more than 20 years of finance and operational experience, including more than 12 years in the aviation sector.

DeLellis earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Dartmouth College and holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

Aircraft remarketing specialists Airstream International Group has arranged the sale of one ATR72-201 freighter aircraft on behalf of Hawaiian Airlines. The aircraft, serial number 389, was sold to Zimex Aviation in Switzerland.
|
This is the third aircraft out of the seven ATRs from the Ohana fleet to have been delivered.

Joramco Academy, the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul school operated by independent MRO provider Joramco, has entered into an agreement to support the establishment of Aerojet Aviation Training Academy, the first of its kind institution to offer advanced studies in aircraft maintenance in Ghana and the sub region.
|
Joramco Acadmey was established in 2007 to provide comprehensive aircraft maintenance training courses. Based at the Joramco site in Amman, it stands apart by providing real-world insights into day-to-day operations at a world-class MRO. It offers internationally valid qualifications, which meet the knowledge requirements of IR Part 66 licensing in category B. The courses are accredited by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), in addition to the Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (JCARC) and the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UKCAA).

Aerojet Aviation was established in 2016 to address the lack of MRO capabilities in Africa, which is hampering the development of air transport industry across the continent, and where there is great potential for growth. The academy is part of a larger project, prioritized by the Government of Ghana, which will see the establishment of a fully equipped and staffed MRO centre in Ghana. In line with this ambition, the Aerojet Training Academy will give young Africans the opportunity to pursue careers in aviation, by providing excellent training facilities, resources and valuable work experience.

To ensure world-class standards, the project is being implemented with support from Joramco Academy instructors who have vast experience on and off the field and have been graduating skilled aircraft maintenance engineers since the academy’s inception in 2007. The certified instructors will train Aerojet’s first batch of students, as well as local instructors who will be taking over in the academy under Aerojet’s own approvals when granted. The Joramco team will also support Aerojet in its preparation and subsequent applications for the relevant approvals from the Ghanaian authorities, EASA and FAA.

The four-year aircraft maintenance course is divided into both theoretical and practical training, with the aim of graduating the first batch of future aircraft maintenance engineers with the experience and confidence to immediately join the workforce at the Aerojet MRO facility being established in Ghana.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning all flights until 11 a.m. local time had been cancelled at Geneva and Zurich airports for inbound and outgoing flights, causing the cancellation of a number of flights, owing to what appeared to be a hardware problem at the Skyguide air traffic control service.
|
Skyguide has confirmed that a technical malfunction in the early hours of Wednesday meant that Swiss airspace had to be closed to traffic for "safety reasons". Images posted by Flightradar24 at 7.17 local time show a massive hole in flights over Switzerland. Skyguide spokesman Vladi Barrosa told the Tagesanzeiger news website that the problem appeared to be a hardware fault and they did not believe their system had been hacked: "Our technicians are working flat out to fix the fault."

Curiously, flights were running as normal at Basel-Mulhouse airport as despite the city of Basel being in Switzerland, the airport itself is on French territory and is therefore covered by French air traffic control. While as at 10.00 p.m. local time air traffic was gradually resuming, there had been no further details provided regarding flight delays or cancellations.
