Bombardier has announced that with a firm order for 20 CRJ900s, Delta Air Lines will become the launch customer for the regional jet fitted out with the new ATMOSPHÈRE cabin. Based on the list price, the order has a value of US$961 million.
|
|
On the order, Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft said: “We are thrilled that Delta continues to select the CRJ Series as the airline looks into the future growth of its regional operations. Together with Delta, we have driven the development of regional aviation in the U.S., and we are looking forward to further enhancing regional air travel with the launch of the new ATMOSPHÈRE cabin with our long-standing and esteemed customer.”

The 20 CRJ900 aircraft will be operated by the Delta offshoot Delta Connection, in a two-class regional jet configuration with 70 seats. Delivery is expected to begin late this year.
|
Delta Air Lines will take delivery of the world’s first ATMOSPHÈRE cabin CRJ900 aircraft in late 2018.
Including this order form Delta Air Lines, Bombardier has 1953 firm orders for the CRJ Series aircraft.
According to Bombardier, the new ATMOSPHÈRE cabin sets new standards of passenger experience in the regional jet market segment.

Key features of the new interior are comprised of larger passenger living space, wheel-first roller bag capability, more spacious lavatory, increased cabin connectivity options, all integrated in a contemporary design and material choices. In fact, the ATMOSPHÈRE cabin design allows each passenger to carry and store an “oversized” roller bag within the aircraft cabin bins which minimizes the need to check bags at the counter or the gate.

Boeing and FedEx Express have signed a new order for 12 767 Freighters and 12 777 Freighters as one of the world's largest air cargo carrier continues to invest in new freighters to better serve its customers.

"We are taking another positive step in our fleet modernization program as we add more efficient, lower emission aircraft to our global fleet," said David L. Cunningham, President and CEO of FedEx Express. "The Boeing 767 and 777 Freighters have brought greater efficiency and reliability to our air operations. The 777, with its tremendous range characteristics, has allowed us to provide faster transit times around the globe. We are excited to add more of these aircraft to our fleet."

The new airplanes, valued at US$6.6 billion at list prices, will appear on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries webpage once contingencies have been met.

This order comes as the air cargo industry continues to gather strength. A year after demand grew by nearly 10%, global air freight is on track to increase by another four to five percent in 2018.

On June 20, 2018, Lufthansa Technik AG has put a new tail dock in operation at its Munich base. The company invested over €2 million in the new infrastructure. The dock is used for maintenance work on the aircraft types Airbus A330, A340 and A350.
|
|
The dock facilitates maintenance work at the rear of long-haul aircraft, as it makes the vertical and horizontal stabilizer and the auxiliary power unit, APU, easier to access. It also allows different work packages to be carried out simultaneously. The dock is 28.5 meters wide, 21 meters deep and 20.7 meters high. The weight is 125 tons.

"After two years of project phase and three months of construction time, the tail dock enables more efficient and safe handling of the work packages and is an investment in the future of long-haul maintenance operations at the Munich base", says Holger Beck, Senior Director Aircraft Line Maintenance Munich.

With over 800 employees, Lufthansa Technik services short- and long-haul aircraft for more than 40 customers at its second-largest maintenance base within Germany, including more than 100 aircraft of the Lufthansa Group alone.

Rolls-Royce has joined Cathay Pacific Airways to celebrate the delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000, powered by the Trent XWB-97, the latest version of the Trent XWB, the most efficient large aero engine in service today.
|

Greeted by aviation enthusiasts, the aircraft arrived in Hong Kong on June 20, making Cathay Pacific the first airline in the Greater China region to receive an A350-1000. Cathay Pacific has ordered a total of 20 A350-1000 aircraft, and the engines are all fully covered by Rolls-Royce’s flagship TotalCare® service.

Rolls-Royce has supplied engines to Cathay Pacific for more than 40 years and the celebrations today mark another important step on that journey. The delivery also highlights the continued success of the Trent XWB, the fastest selling widebody jet engine ever, with over 1,700 engines ordered by 45 customers worldwide.

The fall-out from Argentina’s financial turmoil is having a huge impact on travel to and from the country, according to latest figures from ForwardKeys which predicts future travel patterns by analysing 17 million booking transactions a day.
|
|
Outbound travel bookings collapsed after the Peso crashed in May and President Macri asked the IMF for a bailout. Bookings for travel from Argentina to other Latin American countries (which have the largest share of Argentina’s outbound travel, at 43%) slumped year-on-year by 26.1%.
|
|
Total international outbound bookings were down 20.4%, having shown an increase of 8.4% between January and April. Other destinations hardest hit are the US and Canada down 18.2%, and the Caribbean, down 36.8%. All had shown increases up to April.
|
|
Chile tops the list of countries showing the largest falls in flight bookings from Argentina year-on-year, down 50.6%. Cuba is down 43.2%.
|
|
The ForwardKeys findings show the countries most potentially affected by Argentina’s travel collapse, because of their market share of its visitors, are Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile, followed by Bolivia, Peru, Cuba and Colombia.
|
|
Argentina itself is also suffering an inbound decline among Latin American travellers who are nervous about its current economic difficulties. Bookings made in May were nearly 14% down on those made in May last year.
|
|
Looking ahead, Argentina’s problems are set to persist as the country struggles to find economic cures. Bookings for arrival in June to August are behind by 4.9% on last year. Bookings from Brazil alone are lagging by 9%.
|
Argentina is not alone; its difficulties are echoed in the tourism outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole, where bookings for June, July and August are 2.0% behind last year’s. In Central America, the slump has been largely caused by Nicaragua’s social unrest and volcanoes in Guatemala. In the Caribbean some destinations are still struggling to recover from recent hurricanes. Chile and Cuba have been hit by the woes of their important source market, Argentina.

German Special Mission Operator FAI rent-a-jet AG has expanded its fleet of managed aircraft with the addition of a fifth Global Express (S/N 9084). This brings FAI’s total fleet to 25, including its 10 managed aircraft.
|
|
In addition to the five Bombardier Global Express jets, FAI currently operates five Challenger 604s, 12 Learjet 60s, one Learjet 55, one Premier 1A and a King Air 350. All Bombardier aircraft are maintained by FAI Technik.
|

The new Global Express will be German registered and operated on behalf of a corporate client. It will be based at FAI’s corporate headquarters in Nuremberg following a full cabin refurbishment and new exterior paint undertaken by FAI’s growing MRO subsidiary, FAI Technik GmbH.
|
This project marks FAI Technik’s third Global Express full cabin refurbishment in just six months. It is anticipated that the project will be complete by mid-November when the aircraft will be available for charter.

WestJet has inaugurated its new regional airline service, WestJet Link, from Cranbrook and Prince George to Calgary.
|
|
Service starts from Lethbridge and Lloydminster to Calgary on June 21 and Medicine Hat to Calgary on June 22. Overall, WestJet Link connects five new cities to WestJet's growing hub at the YYC Calgary International Airport.

All WestJet Link flights are operated by Pacific Coastal using its fleet of 34-seat Saab 340B aircraft. Each aircraft includes six seats available in WestJet Plus, offering guests advanced boarding, no-charge for two checked bags and seating at the front of the aircraft.

At the Future of Transportation World Conference in Cologne, Germany, Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc company, announced a newly formed collaboration with Safran on the development of innovative hybrid electric power system solutions to support Bell's vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft concept.
|
|
Bell Helicopter’s Director of Innovation, Scott Drennan, commented that: "Bell is at the forefront of on-demand mobility – ushering a new era of flight where the benefits of aviation are accessible to more people in more places. This announcement is another proof point of our commitment to providing transportation of people and logistics in new, innovative and more efficient ways; our work with Safran is a historical milestone for future transport solutions."

Bell and Safran's have a shared vision for electric and hybrid electric aircraft, which is to strive for the successful deployment of Bell Air Taxis and new on-demand mobility systems in the future.

Alaska Airlines brings more aloha spirit to Northern California with the addition of new nonstop service between Sacramento, California, and Kona on Hawaii's Big Island.
|
|
The new service, which is scheduled to begin Dec. 20, will be the only nonstop flight offered between the two destinations with a flight frequency of three times a week. Alaska currently offers nonstop service from Sacramento to Maui, Hawaii.
|
"We're pleased that Alaska Airlines is expanding its service to Hawaii from Sacramento. This new service to Kona marks our airport's first scheduled service to the Big Island, and enhances the portfolio of nonstop service between Sacramento and the islands," said Mark Haneke, manager of air service development and marketing for Sacramento International Airport.
