IAG is to become the fourth low-cost carrier to operate out of Vienna with an Air Operator Certificate issued by the Austrian Civil Aviation Authority. The Group, which owns British Airways, Vueling and Iberia, among others, has announced the creation of a new low-cost carrier, LEVEL, which will service short-haul routes from the Austrian capital.

Level will join easyJet, Lufthansa offshoot Eurowings, and newly formed Laudamotion, a joint venture between Niki Lauda and Ryanair and the resurrection of the low-cost carrier, Niki, which folded with the demise of its parent company Air Berlin.

The new carrier will operate four Airbus A321 aircraft each with 210 economy seats and will service fourteen short-haul destinations from Vienna, with primary destinations including London Gatwick (14 flights per week), Paris Charles de Gaulle (13 flights per week) and Milan Malpensa (13 flights per week.) Other destinations include Palma, Barcelona, Malaga, Olbia (Sardinia), Venice, Ibiza, Dubrovnik, Larnaca, Alicante, Valencia and Bilbao.

LEVEL will commence commercial operations on July 17 with flights to London Gatwick and Palma.
|
According to IAG’s chief executive officer Willie Walsh: “We are launching this new short-haul subsidiary to provide Austrian consumers with more flight choices across Europe. These flights will be branded as LEVEL to build upon the huge success of our new long haul low-cost operation.
“We will serve the Austrian market with low-cost, reliable flights and will initially create around 200 new jobs at our Vienna base.

ERA (European Regions Airline Association) has welcomed the adoption of the updated EU aviation safety rules by the European Council which aim to increase efficiency and lower costs, while bringing greater competitiveness and less administration for airspace users.
|
|
The new rules include first ever EU-wide rules for civil drones of all sizes. ERA supports any initiative that results in safer operation of drones and encourages all EU member states to work together more closely and share essential information to maintain the highest possible aviation safety standards.
|
|
The aim of the revised aviation safety rules is to ensure safe, secure and environmentally friendly aviation for EU citizens. The new framework for drones included in the revised mandate lays down basic principles to ensure safety, security, privacy, data protection and environmental protection.
|
ERA’s Director General Montserrat Barriga comments: “These new rules, a major deliverable of the Commission's Aviation Strategy for Europe, are welcomed by ERA. We especially commend the first ever EU-wide rules to integrate civil drones into European airspace in a safe manner. In the past, many EU member states employed different rules over the use of drones and as such, there was a lack of harmonious approach with regards to safety. As the skies in Europe become busier, we understand that these new rules are necessary to ensure a safer airspace”.

Southwest Airlines has reached a Tentative Agreement with the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), which represents the Company's 2,400 Employees in the aircraft mechanics and related workgroup. The agreement gives employees improved compensation, a ratification bonus, and updated work rules.
|
|
"We're glad our Employees will have the opportunity to vote on this Tentative Agreement, as we feel it rewards them for the hard work they demonstrate every day," said Vice President of Labor Relations Russell McCrady.
|
If the agreement is approved, the contract will become amendable April 1, 2023.
|

Nepal Airlines has taken delivery of the first of two A330s, which it will lease from Portuguese lessor Hi Fly. These will be in addition to its two existing A320ceos and will be one of the largest aircraft operating out of Tribhuvan International Airport.
|
|
Situated at high altitude, only the most sophisticated of aircraft are capable of operating from this location, which is Nepal’s gateway to destinations in the rest of Asia and beyond.
|
The A330 is one of the most popular widebody aircraft, having won over 1,700 orders from 119 customers worldwide. Today, over 1,300 A330s are in service with 124 airlines, flying on everything from high density domestic and regional operations to long range intercontinental routes.

Spirit AeroSystems has officially opened its new logistics warehouse at its manufacturing operations in Subang, Malaysia. The 50,000-ft² facility will accommodate increasing volumes of assembly work on aerostructure components for commercial airliners.
|
|
The expansion will free up other manufacturing space and improve the site's capacity to rapidly build complex aerostructures for high-rate production programs at competitive cost.
|
The new warehouse is adjacent to other buildings on Spirit's campus in the Malaysia International Aerospace Centre near Kuala Lumpur. The building and its supporting infrastructure have been designed with future expansion in mind, giving the company flexibility to eventually add another 75,000 ft² of warehousing space.

The first BelugaXL has rolled out of the paintshop unveiling a special livery making it look like a Beluga Whale. The livery was one of six choices submitted to Airbus employees through a poll where 20,000 people participated. With 40% votes in favour, the smiley livery won.
|

The BelugaXL will now undertake gound tests before first flight planned in summer 2018.
|
The decision to build the BelugaXL was taken in November 2014 to address the transport and ramp-up capacity requirements for Airbus beyond 2019. The new oversize air transporters are based on the A330-200 Freighter, with a large re-use of existing components and equipments. The first of five BelugaXLs will fly in summer 2018 and enter into service in 2019.

GECAS and Oz Management have announced the closing of STARR 2018-1. Operating as START Ltd., this closing marks the first aircraft portfolio purchase vehicle structure to include a dedicated Asset Manager for equity investors.
|
|
In this transaction GECAS is selling a portfolio of aircraft to Start Ltd, which is financing its acquisition through issuance of 144A debt and equity. The sales are subject to typical conditions precedent including any regulatory approvals that may be necessary. GECAS will continue to service the portfolio and an affiliate of Oz will serve as an Asset Manager.

The diversified portfolio is comprised of 24 in-production Boeing and Airbus aircraft on lease to 16 global airlines in 15 countries, with a total appraised value of approximately US$700 million.
|
An affiliate of Oz, through an exclusive, multi-year agreement with GECAS, will serve as an asset manager on this and potential future transactions, acting on behalf of the syndicated equity investors as an advisor to the board regarding portfolio matters. In this capacity, Oz will provide increased transparency on behalf of START Ltd. through enhanced investor reporting to improve liquidity for debt and equity investors.

Embraer has delivered its first Phenom 300E in Asia Pacific to Northern Escape Collection.
|
|
The new light jet model, which is an enhancement of the Phenom 300, offers Northern Escape Collection an elegant solution to provide their guests access to its collection of private lodges in Queensland including Orpheus Island Lodge, Daintree Ecolodge and Mt Mulligan Lodge.
|
|
Australia-based aircraft and charter management company Avcair will operate the new Phenom 300E on behalf of Northern Escape Collection. Avcair will also offer it for VIP domestic and international charter services.

Turkish Airlines has launched a brand new wireless In-Flight Entertainment system developed by Turkish engineers in cooperation with Turkish Technic Inc. and Havelsan.
|
|
The new entertainment system is now available on the flag carrier’s 44 narrow body aircraft via passengers’ personal electronic devices.
|
|
“We keep striving to make our passengers' entire journey more enjoyable with our passenger satisfaction focused approach. We are pleased to increase the availability of the in-flight entertainment system to 95% of our fleet,” said Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, M. İlker Aycı. “This new system will enable our passengers to connect to the Wi-Fi network via their personal electronic devices, and display the media content, specially designed for this system.”

In addition, passengers will also be able to use the Wireless Entertainment System on their laptops by using the Google Chrome browser. Through this Wireless In-flight Entertainment System, Turkish Airlines’ passengers can access more than 250 films, 700 TV Shows, 2,000 music albums, 19,000 songs, and other media content.

TUI successfully issued a certificate of indebtedness with tenors of five, seven and ten years including fixed and floating rate tranches. The average tenor of the transaction amounts to 6.4 years. Due to very strong investor demand the initially announced volume of €200 million was significantly oversubscribed and TUI decided to upsize the deal to EUR 425m. The certificate of indebtedness attracted a broad range of domestic and international investors.

The main proceeds of the Group's general financing, will in particular be used to finance new aircraft. Currently, the Group is renewing and modernizing its Boeing 737 fleet.
