Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering), has announced that its Group’s U.S. subsidiary Vision Technologies Aerospace Incorporated (VT Aerospace) has entered into a conditional share purchase agreement to acquire a 100% ownership in MRA Systems, (MRAS) from General Electric Company. The purchase is based on a 100% aggregate purchase consideration of US$630 million which will be on a cash-free and debt-free basis, and subject to closing adjustments for underfunded pension obligations, other debt-like items, transaction expenses, net working capital and other contingent adjustments.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, USA with approximately 800 employees, and a 90-year history in the aviation industry, MRAS is an established Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of engine nacelle systems for both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft. It currently concentrates on the design, development, production and sale of nacelles, thrust reversers and aerostructures, along with the sale of spare parts.

MRAS has a good combination of mature and next-generation nacelle programs including the A320neo powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engine, which is Airbus’ new-engine option for its A320 aircraft family, COMAC’s C919 powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1C turbofan engine and COMAC’s ARJ21 powered by General Electric’s CF34 engine.

Boeing and Air Peace of Nigeria have signed a new order for ten 737 MAX 8 airplanes during a signing ceremony in Lagos.
|
Air Peace already operates Boeing 737s between major cities in Central and West Africa. The airline, which recently added Boeing 777s to its fleet, is looking to soon launch its international flight operations.
|
"We are excited to add the 737 MAX to our fleet as we expand our network to offer more destinations and serve more passengers," said Allen Onyema, Chairman and CEO, Air Peace Limited. "The fuel efficiency and superior operating economics of the 737 MAX will ensure that the aircraft will play a major role in growing our business in the years to come."

More than 10,000 drone pilots are now registered with Airshare to fly in New Zealand airspace. The online hub for drone pilots operated by Airways has released that its database of registered pilots has topped the milestone mark.
|
Drone pilots have enthusiastically adopted Airshare since its launch in December 2014 to access flight information and log flights directly with air traffic control. However registrations have soared over the last year, with close to 1000 in the last three months alone.
|
Recreational pilots account for 80% of registrations and those flying for commercial purposes make up the remainder. Registered pilots are logging around 600 drone flights through the system every week across New Zealand.
|
Airshare’s registration provides a way to identify drones and their owners and also to reach and educate drone pilots who may be new to aviation.
|
“Hitting the 10,000 mark is excellent news as it reflects drone pilots’ growing awareness of their safety responsibilities,” Airways CEO Graeme Sumner says. “It’s extremely encouraging to see so many recreational pilots signing up as they are the group that we are finding it more difficult to reach.”
|
There is currently no legal requirement for drone pilots to be registered to fly and the Airshare system is voluntary.
|
“We would like to see mandatory registration and training requirements for drone pilots implemented to make sure all airspace users are able to continue to fly safely,” Mr Sumner says.
|
In May Airways surveyed 1460 drone pilots for the inaugural Drone Tracker report. Sixty per cent of respondents to the survey supported mandatory registration and 59% said they support mandatory training.
|
Airways is progressing with the development of a future drone traffic management system to safely integrate drones into New Zealand’s wider airspace network. Trials are underway to test technologies that will allow drones to be accurately tracked once they are beyond the pilot’s line of site, and provide detect and avoidance capability to keep them safely separated from other aircraft.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday joined Airbus executives, city and county leaders from Mobile, and industry and educational partners in breaking ground for Flight Works Alabama, the new aviation experience center to be built in Mobile.
|
In May 2017, Ivey announced plans to build the hands-on instructional facility, with the goal to bolster Alabama’s workforce development efforts and inspire young people to pursue careers in aerospace. Wednesday’s event officially launched construction of the facility, which is due to open in late 2019.
|
Flight Works Alabama will be an 18,000-ft² experience center housing a large interactive exhibition area, classrooms, a collaboration room, a workshop, a restaurant and a gift shop. Located near the campus of Airbus’ aircraft manufacturing facility at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, the center will also be a gateway for public tours of Airbus’ A320 family assembly line.

In addition to the experience center, the facility will host educational opportunities for adults seeking new or expanded skills in the industry. Nine education partners have signed on to provide these opportunities including Auburn University, Bishop State Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Troy University, Tuskegee University, University of South Alabama, University of Alabama and University of West Alabama.

Seabury Solutions, a subsidiary of New York-based Seabury Capital Group and one of the market leader in providing Information Technology solutions for the aviation industry, has announced that Ravn Air Group had selected the company’s Alkym® Management and Control System for Aircraft Maintenance.
|
Alkym is expected to streamline and increase the operating efficiency of the airline group’s growing fleet, ensuring a substantial return on investment.
|
The comprehensive implementation process has already begun, which will see Seabury Solutions provide the Ravn Air team the expertise in configuration and training of the system for the three organizations under the group. The pre-implementation workshop has already been completed to ensure the most effective deployment of the solution, tailored to the airline’s requirements. On a phased basis, each of the airlines in the group will go live with Alkym.

Ravn Air Group consists of Corvus Airlines, Hageland Aviation, and Frontier Flying Service. Combined the companies have been flying for about as long as Alaska has been a state. Corvus Airlines trading as Ravn Alaska can be traced back to 1948. The group fleet consists of nearly 70 aircraft (Beech 1900 & Cesna), which serve almost 100 destinations across the Last Frontier.

Cadence Aerospace, a provider of highly complex aerospace components and assemblies to commercial and defense customers, announces the appointment of Richard Brighenti as Vice President, General Manager of Cadence Aerospace-Tell Tool, effective immediately. With Centers of Excellence based in the U.S. and Mexico, Cadence Aerospace serves the world's leading manufacturers of aircraft, aerostructures, aeroequipment and other defense platforms. Cadence Aerospace- Tell Tool, located in Westfield, Massachusetts, performs complex machining, assembly and testing for aeroequipment.

In his new role, Mr. Brighenti will oversee all operations at Cadence Aerospace-Tell Tool, including employees, production, and lean and safety initiatives as well as identify new areas for growth and improvement in quality and productivity. He will report directly to Tom Hutton, Chief Executive Officer of Cadence Aerospace.

The Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services Moscow facility, based at Vnukovo - 3 (VKO), has been added to Bombardier's worldwide service network as a line maintenance Authorized Service Facility (ASF) and official parts provider for Russia.
|
The support provided at the facility includes a seamless parts supply system, which is expected to directly benefit customers by reducing downtime and increasing aircraft utilization. Additional services offered at the facility include local stock of parts in high demand, full-scale line maintenance services to all owners and operators of Bombardier aircraft within the region, performance of warranty work and AOG services.

The facility will provide support for Bombardier's Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft in the region.

Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services VKO will procure parts and arrange for the immediate clearance through Russian customs and transportation to the Moscow facility to ensure the required parts are on-hand and immediately available when needed. Along with its cooperative partner VTS Jets, Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services VKO provides full-scale line maintenance services to customers in Moscow. AOG services are available throughout Russia and the CIS region.

In August 2018, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed some 6.8 million passengers – an increase of 8.1% year-on-year. Since the beginning of 2018, FRA has achieved growth of 8.7%, with European routes continuing to drive passenger traffic. In the reporting month, aircraft movements climbed by 8.0% to 46,389 take-offs and landings, while accumulated maximum take-off weights (MTOWs) rose by 5.5% to about 2.9 million metric tons. With 182,589 metric tons (up 0.8 percent), cargo (airfreight + airmail) almost reached the same level as last year.

The airports in Fraport’s international portfolio continued their growth path in August 2018. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia recorded an increase of 3.1% to 202,423 passengers. Fraport’s two Brazilian airports in Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) reported combined traffic growth of 4.6% to about 1.2 million passengers. The Group’s 14 Greek airports achieved overall positive growth of 6.6% to some 5.4 million passengers in August 2018. Fraport Greece’s fastest growing airports included Corfu (CFO) with 704,741 passengers and Kos (KGS) with 538,382 passengers – both recording a 12.2% gain – while traffic at Mytilene Airport (MJT) on the island of Lesbos jumped by 11.6% to 71,636 passengers.

Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru saw traffic increase by 6.6% to about 2.1 million passengers. Bulgaria’s Twin Star airports of Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) registered combined growth of 5.8% to nearly 1.4 million passengers. Traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera surged by 14.7% to about 4.9 million passengers. Hanover Airport (HAJ) closed the reporting period with 667,084 passengers (up 8.1%). Traffic also advanced at Pulkovo Airport (LED) in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Xi’an Airport (XIY) in China – where almost 2.1 million travelers (up 11.6%) and some 4.2 million passengers (up 8.8%) were served, respectively.

Airbus has appointed Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), replacing Eric Schulz, who has decided to leave the company for personal reasons.
|
Christian Scherer will start his new assignment with immediate effect. He will report to Airbus Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tom Enders.
|
Scherer, CEO of ATR since October 2016, held many senior management positions within the Group. At Airbus, where he started his career in 1984, Scherer was Head of Contracts, Leasing Markets and Deputy Head of Sales as well as Head of Strategy and Future Programmes. At Airbus Defence and Space, he headed Marketing & Sales.

Southwest Airlines has reported its August 2018 traffic statistics. The Company reported that August 2018 traffic increased 1.3% compared to August 2017, while capacity increased 2.0%. The August 2018 load factor was 84.3%, compared with 84.9% in August 2017.
