The Prima Air & Space Museum in Arizona is to become the recipient of the first-ever Boeing 777 thanks to a joint donation announced on September 18, by Cathay Pacific and Boeing. The 777-200 plane, line number WA001, was retired in May by Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific after 18 years of operation for the carrier, having first flown in June 1994. During its service with Cathay Pacific the jet, B-HNL, operated 20,519 flights and recorded 49,687 hours of flying time.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Officer Rupert Hogg said: “As the world’s very first 777, B-HNL holds a very special place in the history of both our airline and that of commercial aviation, and we are very pleased it will soon bring enjoyment to enthusiasts at its new home in Arizona,” adding that: “Our 777-200 aircraft have served us exceptionally well over the last two decades, and as we progressively retire these over the months ahead, we eagerly look forward to welcoming the state-of-the art 777-9 aircraft into our fleet from 2021.”

Cathay Pacific was responsible for input into the original design of the 777, affording it the opportunity to have a number of features included which specifically suited its needs, including a cabin cross-section similar to the 747 Jumbo Jet, a modern ‘glass’ cockpit, fly-by-wire system, and, critically, lower operating costs. Currently, Cathay Pacific operates one of the largest 777 fleets in the world.

“Cathay Pacific has been instrumental in the tremendous success of the 777 programme. The airline contributed greatly to the airplane’s original design and has been one of its biggest ambassadors ever since. And now they are a launch customer for our new 777X airplane. We are thrilled to partner with Cathay on this donation to the museum as a way to share the remarkable story of the Boeing 777 for years to come,” commented Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Kevin McAllister.

The Latvian airline airBaltic has transported 2.770 047 or 18% passengers more during the first eight months of 2018 than in the same period last year to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.
|
In August 2018, 440.562 passengers or 14% more than last year travelled with airBaltic. In addition in the summer season airBaltic carried +18% more passengers, marking this period as a record for the airline.

Brussels Airlines continues to invest in its position on the African market, by further reinforcing its flight offer to and from the continent.
|
As of next year, the airline adds 3 extra flights per week to Banjul (Gambia) and will operate 3 out of the 7 weekly frequencies to Dakar (Senegal) as a direct flight, without a stop in another African airport.
|
At the same time, the airline ceases its operations to and from Mumbai, but continues to offer its customers smooth travel options via Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich with Lufthansa Group partners Lufthansa and SWISS.

GE Chairman & CEO John Flannery has reaffirmed the company’s continued commitment to Malaysia with a major US$80 million investment in GE Engine Services Malaysia (GEESM). Alongside this renewed commitment to the GEESM facility, GE also announced the establishment of the Global IT Service Desk, located at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

GEESM, an aircraft engine services workshop, will enter into a long-term tenancy agreement with Impeccable Vintage Properties (IVP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group Berhad, subject to terms to be mutually agreed in relation to GEESM’s Subang facility. This long-term tenancy agreement is part of GEESM’s plans to invest in tooling, testing and skills capabilities to support the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of CFM International’s cutting-edge LEAP engine.

The LEAP engine, produced by a 50/50 joint venture between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, represents a leap ahead in terms of aviation technology and material, and powers aircraft such as the Boeing 737 MAX, Airbus A320neo and Comac C919 single-aisle jets. The MRO work on LEAP will introduce the next chapter of engineering excellence for GEESM’s Subang workshop, making it the first such facility outside the United States for GE.

StandardAero Component Services has cut the ribbon on a new 206,000 ft² repair facility, directly adjacent to its current 236,000 ft² component repair facility in Cincinnati, nearly doubling its capacity to accommodate rapid growth in customer demands during 2018 and beyond.
|
The new facility has been converted into a high-tech aerospace component repair shop with new flooring, lighting and HVAC systems. StandardAero is actively moving parts, equipment and people into the building. The facility will accommodate component repair growth on new and legacy platforms, aeroderivative, military and commercial aircraft engine component repair, as well as larger components.
|
Once fully operational, StandardAero expects to employ 200-300 new technicians to continue to meet the growing demands of customers over the next 12-18 months. Currently, the company has 70+ open positions publicly posted for new jobs in Cincinnati.

The Norwegian Air Shuttle Group and Lufthansa Technik have signed a contract extending an existing Total Engine Support (TES®) contract.
|
The agreement, signed on September at the airline's headquarters in Oslo, covers all-inclusive services for the CFM56-7B engines powering the airline's current fleet of 115 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
|
According to the contract, for the next five years Lufthansa Technik will cover all planned and unplanned shop visits at its highly dedicated CFM56 engine shop in Hamburg, Germany. The agreement also includes a far-reaching engine lease management.
|
Lufthansa Technik will secure the leasing of spare engines for Norwegian to ensure the availability during peak overhaul periods. In addition, the contract includes the regular use of Lufthansa Technik's proprietary Cyclean® Engine Wash and on-site services such as Airline Support Team AST® Engines as well as the use of the portable aerotracer device.

As Sabre Corporation leads the industry evolution toward next-generation retailing, distribution and fulfillment, the company has expanded its Beyond NDC program by entering into strategic relationships with additional airlines and agencies including United Airlines, BCD Travel, Finnair, American Express Travel & Lifestyle Services, Singapore Airlines and Corporate Travel Management.

Sabre has also been designated NDC-Certified Level 3 as an aggregator by IATA (International Air Transport Association), the organization that launched the New Distribution Capability (NDC) data transmission standard. This new certification is in addition to Sabre’s previously announced NDC Level 3 capability as an I.T. provider.
|
Beyond NDC is Sabre’s collaborative innovation initiative chartered to drive the industry forward through the development, integration and testing of end-to-end capabilities to process NDC-enabled offers and orders. Companies committed to the program are participating with Sabre in the solution design process, leveraging beta testing capabilities and establishing their global leadership position as drivers of NDC.

Jet Aviation has formed a new region for AsiaPacific (APAC) and appointed Joe Reckling SVP Regional Operations APAC, effective immediately. The company also appointed David Best, current VP Business Development, as its new SVP Strategic Global Growth (SGG), effective December 1. Best succeeds Johannes Turzer, who is retiring from this role at the end of January 2019.

To help the company capture the value of Hawker Pacific and pursue interests and ambitions in support of its vision, Jet Aviation has formed a new region in Asia-Pacific (APAC) to which it has appointed Joe Reckling SVP Regional Operations. Reckling joins the leadership team, reporting directly to Jet Aviation President, Rob Smith, and will oversee the company’s business activities throughout the region. The new APAC region has 21 locations and more than 1,100 employees.

Reckling joined Hawker Pacific as CFO in 2008, having held senior financial, commercial and managerial roles with various public companies in the UK and Australia. A Chartered Accountant, he holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Town and is a graduate of the Executive Program for Growing Business at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

The first A380 for All Nippon Airways (ANA) took to the skies September 17, completing a maiden flight from the Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Toulouse, France to the Airbus site in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft is now being prepared for cabin installation and painting in the airline’s special A380 livery.
|
ANA HOLDINGS placed a firm order for three A380s in 2016, becoming the first customer for the superjumbo in Japan. The first delivery is scheduled early 2019, and the A380 will initially be operated on the popular Tokyo-Honolulu route.
|
The A380 is the most efficient solution to meet growth on the world’s most heavily travelled routes, carrying more passengers with fewer flights at lower cost and with less emissions.
|
To date, Airbus has delivered 229 A380s, with the aircraft now in services with 14 airlines worldwide.
|
