Despite bad weather being attributed as the cause of July’s crash of an Aeromexico Embraer 190 at Durango International Airport, in a letter sent to the carrier’s workers Chief Executive Andres Conesa has confirmed that all three of the plane’s pilots have since left the company.
|
In the letter he said that: “Irrespective of the evidence ... pointing to weather-related factors, the conduct of the three pilots in the cockpit was not carried out in accordance with established protocols,” which he also made clear violated company procedures. It is understood that at the time of the crash, a pilot in training was acting as co-pilot.

The Embraer 190, Flight 2431, was a domestic flight bound for Mexico City from Durango International Airport which crashed during an attempted take-off on July 31st at 3.30p.m. local time. It is believed that in addition to there being severe rain, the plane hit a microburst, a short but rapidly changing directional wind, which is being seen as the principal cause of the crash. Flight data has been subsequently confirmed by meteorologists and simulator tests have been conducted where no flight crew was able to achieve a different outcome.

Despite the aircraft being destroyed by a combination of impact damage and fire, all 103 passengers and crew on board the aircraft survived, though 85 were injured.

In response to increased demand for travel during the autumn school holidays, Emirates will operate its A380 between Dubai and St. Petersburg, temporarily replacing the Boeing 777 aircraft currently operating on the route.
|
During the period of 25 to 29 October 2018, in advance of the school holidays in Russia, flights EK 175/176 between Dubai and St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo International Airport will be operated by the flagship Emirates A380, offering 14 Private Suites in First Class, 76 fully flat-bed seats in Business Class and 429 seats in Economy Class.

This will be the first time an A380 has operated to St. Petersburg, demonstrating the extensive work and preparation the airport has undertaken in order to receive the double-decker aircraft.

Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has incorporated a new company, Keystone 5 Pte. (Keystone 5) in Singapore as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keystone Holdings (Global) Pte. (Keystone Holdings), with a paid up capital of US$1.00.

Keystone Holdings is a 50-50 joint venture held between ST Aerospace Resources Pte. and SJ Aviation Capital Pte. A holding company for aircraft leasing investments, Keystone Holdings has subsidiaries across various geographies with a portfolio of aircraft which are currently on lease to global airlines.

Through Keystone 5, ST Engineering will grow its aircraft leasing business by acquiring more mid-life narrowbody aircraft that are currently on lease to airlines.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has reported traffic increase of 5% for the month of August, while capacity improved 5.2% compared to the same period in 2017. The load factor for the month was 79.8%, down 0.1 point from the previous year.

easyJet AND Singapore Airlines and its low cost subsidiary airline Scoot will join the ‘Worldwide by easyJet’ global connections service, connecting easyJet customers with South East Asia with Singapore Airlines via Milan Malpensa airport and with Scoot through Berlin Tegel. The service is expected to be available within the coming months.

Singapore Airlines and Scoot join other ‘Worldwide’ partner airlines Thomas Cook, Norwegian, WestJet, Loganair, La Compagnie, Corsair, Neos and Aurigny. 53 million easyJet customers a year will be able to book connecting flights with these airlines through the easyJet website to around 100 destinations across North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Indian Ocean and soon to South East Asia with Singapore Airlines and Scoot.

easyJet customers are using Worldwide to connect through easyJet’s biggest European airport hubs including Gatwick, Milan Malpensa, Berlin Tegel and Venice Marco Polo, with the service due to go live in the coming months at Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Amsterdam Schiphol, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Aeroflot has taken delivery of its 49th Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100). The aircraft, registration number RA-89116, is named in honour of the legendary military commander Konstantin Rokossovsky.
|
The Russian-built Sukhoi Superjet 100 is configured with 12 seats in business class and 75 seats in economy class. The new SSJ100 will start operating on Aeroflot routes in the coming weeks.
|
Aeroflot supports Russian manufacturing and is currently the largest operator of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. The airline will soon take delivery of another SSJ 100, bringing the total number to 50. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 planes will operate flights on Aeroflot routes within Russia, CIS countries and also to a number of European countries.

Rolls-Royce engines have been selected by Boeing to power the US Navy’s new MQ-25 Stingray aircraft, which will provide unmanned, carrier-based air-to-air refuelling.
|
The US Navy has awarded the MQ-25A engineering and manufacturing contract to Boeing to provide four aircraft. The MQ-25 is designed to provide the US Navy with a much-needed refuelling capability and extend the range of combat aircraft from carriers.
|
Each MQ-25 aircraft will be powered by a single Rolls-Royce AE 3007N engine, manufactured in Indianapolis, US. The AE 3007N, the latest variant of the Rolls-Royce AE family of engines, will provide more than 10,000 lbs of thrust and additional electrical power to the aircraft.

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Garuda Indonesia have signed a strategic partnership agreement, which will greatly benefit the customers of both airlines by providing more travel options between the two countries.
|
Through this initial agreement, effective October 28, 2018, the two airlines will start offering codeshare flights on select routes between Japan and Indonesia, and on domestic flights operated by Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines, respectively. Garuda Indonesia will also offer codeshare flights on select transpacific routes operated by Japan Airlines.

In addition to the codeshare cooperation, in which JAL and Garuda Indonesia aim to expand the applicable routes in the near future, the carriers will look to develop the partnership in various areas, including the enhancement of their frequent flyer programs and ultimately pursue a joint business structure in their respective market.

Sabre Corporation has named Cem Tanyel as Sabre executive vice president and president of Airline Solutions, effective September 10, and reporting to Travel Solutions President Dave Shirk.
|
Tanyel is a seasoned technology leader having held executive roles in product development, professional services and industry solutions general management over a career spanning more than 25 years. Most recently he served as executive vice president and general manager of professional services at Kony, a leader in mobile application development and digital solutions serving the financial services, healthcare and travel industries.

Avolon Holdings (Avolon), the international aircraft leasing company, has announced the pricing of a private offering (the Offering) by its wholly owned subsidiary, Avolon Holdings Funding Limited, of US$1.0 billion aggregate principal amount of 5.125% Senior Notes due 2023 (the “Notes”), at par. The Notes will be fully and unconditionally guaranteed by Avolon and by certain of its subsidiaries. The Offering is expected to close on or about 17 September, 2018, subject to customary closing conditions.
Avolon intends to use the net proceeds from the Offering for general corporate purposes, which may include the future repayment of outstanding indebtedness.

The Notes will not be registered under the U.S. Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the “Securities Act”), or any state securities law and may not be offered or sold in the United States absent registration or an applicable exemption from registration under the Securities Act and applicable state securities laws. The Notes will be offered in the United States only to qualified institutional buyers under Rule 144A of the Securities Act and outside the United States under Regulation S of the Securities Act.
