Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) is calling on Ryanair pilots to take industrial action from Wednesday, September 12, 2018, 3:01 am to Thursday, September 13, 2018, 2:59 am. All pilots permanently employed at Ryanair bases in Germany are called to strike. All flights scheduled to depart from German airports during this time will be affected.

VC is demanding improvements concerning pay and working conditions for many months now. Up to this day Ryanair management has not issued an improved offer, although VC’s demands have not changed since last year.

Ingolf Schumacher, head of Industrial Relations VC said: „Despite the strong signal of the strike action beginning of August, negotiations have come to a standstill. We are ultimately expecting solutions.“
|
VC therefore invited Ryanair management in September to enter arbitration talks. VC also presented detailed proposals concerning the arbitration process. Instead of responding to VC’s proposals and signing an arbitration agreement with VC, Ryanair management only tried to stall by issuing vague and meaningless statements. Ryanair management still does not seem to be interested in finding a solution at all.

From VC’s perspective, an arbitrator must have sufficient knowledge of German Law. In addition, an arbitrator must be capable of guiding both parties to reach an overall solution. VC has proposed several suitable individuals, who were all rejected by Ryanair. Instead, Ryanair management still insists on an Irish Mediator, who could not possibly have enough knowledge of German Law and therefore already is not qualified to act as an arbitrator in this case.

Schumacher said: „Ryanair obviously tries to dictate their terms and conditions through the backdoor. This is not going to be successful.“ Agreements reached between Ryanair management and the Irish and Italian pilots cannot be a blue print for a solution in Germany.

HAECO Americas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the HAECO Group, has released that Bill Collins will join the company’s leadership team as President of Airframe Services. In this role, he will oversee the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) business segment of HAECO Americas.
|
Collins has more than 30 years’ experience in the aviation industry, leading MRO operations. For the past year, he has been developing the MRO practice at ICF, a global consulting and technology services provider. Prior to this, he worked with the Bristow Group as Senior Vice President of Flight and Technical Operations, and with American Airlines as Corporate Vice President of Technical Operations, overseeing three sites and 1,000 aircraft. He has also held senior sales and operational roles within GE Aviation.

FlyKargo has announced a partnership with JetBlue Airways to facilitate air cargo movement between Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico as part of a three month pilot program that begins on October 15th, 2018.
|
FlyKargo, based in Miami, FL are specialists in delivering turnkey air cargo managed services to low cost airlines and will focus on providing fast and reliable air cargo services to the registered freight forwarders as well as known shippers. Services will begin with a traditional air-to-air offering and will gradually include door pickup and delivery extension in additional markets. By leveraging the excess cargo carrying capacity available on over 250 airplanes JetBlue aims at providing the right balance of speed and cost to its customers.

For this pilot program, JetBlue and FlyKargo selected Air General, a long standing handling provider for JetBlue, to provide the ground handling operations in FLL and GMD, also a top quality handling company, will provide the handling operations in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lastly, Aeronex, an innovative aviation industry leading management and consulting company, will provide the management services for FlyKargo.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has ordered three new Q400 turboprops by signing a purchase agreement with Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. Based on the list price of the Q400 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately US$106 million.
|
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the National Flag Carrier airline of Bangladesh. Its main hub is at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and it also operates flights from its secondary hubs at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.

The airline provides international passenger and cargo services to Asia and Europe, as well as all domestic routes inside Bangladesh. Biman currently flies to 15 international and seven domestic routes.

Oriens Aviation’s exclusive British Isles Pilatus Centre, formally opened this February at London Biggin Hill Airport, reports a strong nine months, supporting a greater number of customers for maintenance and technical support.
|
It is now supporting 12 PC-12 regular customers, including 10 on the UK register – double the number since the start of this year, including two new arrivals now flying with private customers.
|
Oriens Maintenance, which complements Oriens Aviation’s sales activity as exclusive Pilatus PC-12 distributor for the British Isles, has also extended support to Swedish, Finnish, Swiss and N-reg US PC-12 customers since the start of the year.
|
Adhering to the Swiss OEM’s newly revised maintenance inspection schedule for all PC-12 series, which reduces the timing of inspections from 100 to 300 hours, Oriens finds it has more capability to handle other aircraft types too. So far this year the business has carried out MRO checks on a Hawker 1000, Cessna Citation 500, Beechcraft 99 and Cessna 421.

“We are keen to widen out our EASA capability and support types such as the Beechcraft 90 and 200 series, plus the Cessna 208 Caravan,” commented Oriens’ Maintenance Manager Steve Westran.

Airborne Maintenance & Engineering Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group, has received Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) modifications on Boeing 757, 767-200, and 767-300 aircraft. The Airborne solution includes many cost-saving features while minimizing aircraft downtime and upgrade expense to comply with Satellite-Based Augmentation System (S-BAS) requirements mandated by the FAA for 2025.

This new ADS-B Out certification pairs the new ACSS (Thales) Transponders, which were the first to the market and are already in production, with two Esterline/CMC CMA-5024 SBAS GPS Receivers to provide the position information to the transponders. The CMA-5024 also will prepare the aircraft for the future; LPV and GBAS are upgrades that can be added using the CMA-5024. The CMA-5024 gives the operator the best capability with more options for future growth by not only meeting FAA ADS-B mandates for 2020 but also meeting the S-BAS 2025 requirements, providing operators substantial cost savings during the upgrade and reducing overall out-of-service time per aircraft.

Airborne is bringing this approval to the marketplace to help meet global demand for the ADS-B upgrade by the FAA deadline of January 1, 2020.

WestJet has reported August 2018 traffic results with a load factor of 89.0%, a decrease of 1.6 points year over year. Traffic increased 8.1% year over year, while capacity grew 10.0% over the same period. WestJet welcomed an additional 128,000 guests in August, a year-over-year increase of 5.4%.

ST Engineering has ppointed Tom Vecchiolla as President & CEO (Designate) of its US Headquarters, VT Systems. He will take over as President & CEO from General (Ret.) John Coburn on December 1, 2018, who will relinquish his CEO position but remain as non-executive Chairman of VT Systems.

Gen. Coburn has been helming VT Systems for 17 years since it was set up in 2001 to support the Group’s overseas expansion. Today, the US is the Group’s single largest market outside of Singapore, with operating companies and major operations in 16 cities, contributing more than 20% to Group revenue.

Milestone Aviation Group, a GECAS company and a global leader in helicopter leasing, and Airbus Helicopters will provide five H145s to Aramco Overseas Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, a fully integrated, global petroleum and chemicals enterprise.
|
The five aircraft are sourced from Milestone’s orderbook with Airbus and are expected to be delivered to Aramco over the next twelve months. This latest lease commitment of five light-twin aircraft will be in addition to the 24 medium aircraft Milestone currently has contracted on lease to Aramco.

Compact in size, the H145 is the aircraft of choice for high intensity operations such as offshore oil and gas transport thanks to its large and flexible cabin, lowest maintenance costs in its class, powerful engines and Helionix digital avionics suite. More than 200 H145s have been delivered to date and have collectively achieved more than 100,000 flight hours since 2015.

Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has incorporated a new company, Keystone 5 Pte. (Keystone 5) in Singapore as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keystone Holdings (Global) Pte. (Keystone Holdings), with a paid up capital of US$1.00.

Keystone Holdings is a 50-50 joint venture held between ST Aerospace Resources Pte. and SJ Aviation Capital Pte. A holding company for aircraft leasing investments, Keystone Holdings has subsidiaries across various geographies with a portfolio of aircraft which are currently on lease to global airlines.
|
Through Keystone 5, ST Engineering will grow its aircraft leasing business by acquiring more mid-life narrowbody aircraft that are currently on lease to airlines.
|
