Boeing has opened its first component factory in Europe, at Sheffield in the U.K. The premises will be used for the manufacture of actuation system components for the Boeing 737 and 767 jets from raw materials sourced in the U.K. Parts by the thousand will be produced each month, then shipped to Boeing’s Portland, Oregon facilities back in the U.S. Actuation systems move the flaps at the back of the wing to provide extra lift at low speeds during takeoff and landing.

Sheffield will be responsible for manufacturing over 100 different high-tech actuation components of the 737 and 767 wing trailing edge, Boeing having invested some £40 million (US$51.2 million) in the 62,000-square-meter facility. There is a total of 52 employees, including experienced mechanics, engineers and more than 20 apprentices working in the current Boeing Sheffield team.

Western Michigan University's new partnership with AAR, a global provider of aviation services, is expected to enhance instruction for students studying to become aircraft maintenance technicians, providing real-life work experience and an opportunity to be hired upon graduation.
|
The newly launched AAR Eagle Career Pathway Program at WMU will expand the University's aircraft maintenance, repair and operating supply instruction, and include job shadowing and mentoring opportunities, as well as the sharing of proprietary software information with students interested in careers as aircraft maintenance technicians. Under this first-of-its-kind program for aviation maintenance, students will receive academic support, be monitored throughout their academic careers and have an opportunity to interview with AAR after graduation.

CDB Aviation Lease Finance DAC (CDB Aviation), a wholly owned Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing (CDB Leasing), have signed a lease agreement for three new Airbus A320-200neo aircraft with Vietnam’s new start-up carrier, Bamboo Airways.
|
CDB Aviation is the first aircraft leasing company to lease new aircraft to the carrier. The agreement also signifies the addition of the lessor’s first airline customer in Vietnam, as the company continues to expand aggressively its customer footprint in Asia Pacific.
|
Bamboo Airways is considered the first hybrid airline, combining traditional full services and affordable services in Vietnam with an aim to meet diversified demands of all passengers. With the delivery of three A320neos slated for the second half of 2019, the carrier intends to utilize the aircraft to better connect Vietnam’s regions to fast growing Asian source markets and long-haul services to Europe and North America.

GA Telesis (GAT) has completed a purchase and leaseback transaction of three aircraft and two spare engines with Aircalin, the international flag carrier of New Caledonia.
|
GAT completed the acquisition of two Airbus A330-200, one A320-200 aircraft and two spare engines (one CF6-80E1 and one V2527) from Aircalin. Simultaneous with the purchase, the aircraft and engines were placed on operating leases with Aircalin.
|
This is the first lease transaction between GAT and Aircalin. A portion of the transaction was funded by GA Telesis Aviation Investments 2 (GAIN 2), an aviation investment vehicle managed by GA Telesis Capital Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of GA Telesis.

As of October 28, 2018, the winter flight schedule becomes effective. It will provide flights from Václav Havel Airport Prague to 114 destinations in 42 countries. New additions will include Belfast, Marrakesh, Amman, Sharjah, Pisa, Split and Dubrovnik. Altogether, Prague Airport will fly to ten new destinations during the winter season.

Sixty airlines will operate regular flights from Prague during the winter season and two of them, Air Arabia and Cyprus Airways, will appear on Prague’s winter schedule for the very first time.
|
In addition to opening new lines and destinations, Václav Havel Airport Prague will also increase the frequency and capacities of existing lines. Qatar Airways will operate one of its daily flights to Doha in a long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which will increase the overall capacity by approximately 46%. The frequency will be increased on flights to London/Heathrow, London/City, Moscow and Riga.

AeroVision International has signed a long-term component spares and exchange agreement with Tennessee-based Contour Airlines.
The parts support agreement provides Contour with access to an extensive inventory of components used to support their growing fleet of ERJ 135 & 145 aircraft. Parts will be forward-positioned at Contour maintenance facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Arizona, California, West Virginia, and supplied from AeroVision’s main Logistics Center in Muskegon, Michigan.

Oakenhurst Aircraft Services have entered into a partnership agreement with Ontic.
|
As a recognized approved supplier, Oakenhurst further increases its OEM support for component MRO services. Charlie Parker, Managing Director, stated “We have reacted quickly to the recent demand for our services by expanding our UK Facility in Rayleigh. Additional capacity has been provided by increasing test benches dedicated to each product line, and implementing a training programme for our engineering teams. This agreement is testament to all the hard work and planning that goes into collaborating with OEMs in partnership agreements”.

Lufthansa Technik Malta is officially ready to perform all work required for the Base Maintenance of the Airbus A350-900, as the company has been licensed by the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA).
|
The granting of the "Base Maintenance Approval" certificate by the LBA marks the successful end of an intense period of preparation, in which employees were trained, processes were established and infrastructure was adapted.
|
Lufthansa Technik Malta kicked off this extensive program in November 2016. The first Airbus A350 is expected to arrive for base maintenance services at Lufthansa Technik Malta in spring 2019.
|
Lufthansa Technik's CEO Marcus Motschenbacher said: "More than 50 employees of Lufthansa Technik Malta spent just over three months in personal preparation acquiring the necessary qualifications and practical training to enable them to work on the A350. Two out of six base maintenance lines at the facility have been outfitted to accommodate the A350-900 with an investment of over €3.2 million to cover the first C-Checks. A substantial investment in new tooling has included the purchase of more than 280 different tools including engine removal tooling."

Extensive docking modifications have also been undertaken in Hangar 1, extending the current capabilities of the mezzanine, wing and tail docks. Investment in a new electrical installation was also made due to the A350's dedicated hydraulic rigs.

Airbus has welcomed Delta Air Lines as the first U.S. carrier to take delivery of the Airbus A220 aircraft. On hand for the delivery ceremony at the aircraft’s assembly line in Mirabel were members of the A220 team as well as government officials and executives from Delta, Airbus, Bombardier and Investissement Quebec.
|
“It is with great pride that we take delivery of our first, state-of-the-art A220-100,” said Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian. “We have big plans for our A220 fleet and are confident that Delta customers and Delta people alike will be delighted with the in-flight experience provided by this thoroughly modern and efficient aircraft. We value our longstanding partnerships with Airbus and Bombardier and are grateful for the great design and manufacturing work done by the team here in Mirabel.”

Delta’s A220 will enter service in early 2019, making Delta the fourth global airline to operate the aircraft previously known as the Bombardier C Series. The C Series Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP) welcomed Airbus as lead partner earlier this year, prompting the change of name to the Airbus A220. Delta is the largest A220-100 customer, with a firm order for 75 aircraft.

AviTrader CS GmbH has appointed Helmut Himmelreich as Senior Adviser Operations Improvement Programs.

Himmelreich will lead the operational consulting unit of AviTrader and its strategic partner Amros Global focusing on performance improvement programs for airlines and MRO organizations. Besides consulting services, Helmut and other senior consultants are also available to provide interim management services.

Norwegian (NAS) has reported a result (EBT) of 1.6 billion NOK (£149 million) for the third quarter 2018. The company continued to reduce its unit costs despite a capacity growth of 33%. Going forward, the growth will abate, consequently further reducing unit cost.
|
The net profit for the third quarter was 1.3 billion NOK (£121 million), an improvement of 18% compared to the same quarter last year. The company's unit costs excluding fuel have decreased by 10% this quarter. The total revenue increased by 33% to 13.4 billion NOK (£1.2 billion). In total, approximately 11 million passengers chose to travel with Norwegian in the third quarter - an increase of 11%. The load factor remained high at 90.5% compared to 91.7% last year.

Norwegian has made significant investments in recent years, with the establishment of new bases internationally and in new markets; recruitment of several thousand employees - primarily pilots and cabin crew - the launch of many new routes and increase of frequencies on well-established routes. The strong international footprint has for instance contributed to the United States now representing the largest market after Norway in terms of total revenue.

HAECO Hong Kong, a member of the HAECO Group, has introduced the ENVISION® nGen maintenance information system – a web-based digital platform developed by global aviation software solutions company Rusada – to support its engine maintenance operations.
|
HAECO Hong Kong provides on-wing and off-wing engine maintenance services, including boroscope inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) during airframe maintenance and light maintenance checks, at its hangar facilities at the Hong Kong International Airport. The company also offers engine services support to airline customers by sending dedicated teams to perform inspection and repair work on-site at any location in the world.

Rusada’s ENVISION nGen technology enables HAECO Hong Kong to deploy a fully digital planning, operations and management process within its engine services division. The use of the maintenance information system helps reduce paperwork before and after the planning stage, saving one man-day for basic tasks and six man-days in the case of larger inputs. It also allows more accurate engine shop planning, which further enhances operational efficiency.

The implementation of ENVISION nGEN will be performed by HAECO Hong Kong’s inhouse team and Rusada’s experts in phases. In future, the platform will be enhanced to provide customer portals so that customers can access real-time information about the status of engines under maintenance.
