Wesco Aircraft Holdings (WAIR) has posted a first-quarter loss of US$374,000 after making a profit for the same period last year. On a per-share basis, the California-based company confirmed it had a loss of less than one cent, while earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 15 cents per share. This figure exceeded Wall Street expectations and analysts who predicted 12 cents per share. Revenue for the period stood at US$363.1 million.

GE and Tata group, India's leading global enterprise, have held the ground-breaking ceremony for a world class Structural Center of Excellence (COE) focused on aero-engine components. The manufacturing facility will be located in Adibatla, Hyderabad.
The COE will incorporate latest technologies from GE and best manufacturing practices to deliver complex high precision aero-engine components to the world's fastest-selling jet engine, the CFM LEAP engine.
This is part of the strategic partnership signed in November 2017 between GE Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) to join forces for manufacturing, assembling, integration and testing of aircraft components.
The agreement for manufacturing of LEAP components and establishment of TASL as a COE provides the opportunity for TASL to expand into other GE product lines in both commercial and military engines in the future.

Specialist aviation component support provider, Bii, has appointed new Technical Director, Michael Dancey as the organisation continues to establish a team of highly experienced professionals. Dancey joined the expanding line-up in February 2018. His primary responsibilities include technical oversight of the stores and customer requirements, KPI monitoring and technical oversight for all trace and technical records. As well as offering technical assistance to the sales and repair teams and training new starters for stores and human factors.

In January 2018, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group welcomed around 8.7 million passengers. This shows an increase of 10.1% compared to the previous year’s month. Capacity was up 8% over the previous year, at the same time, traffic increased by 7.4%. The seat load factor decreased by 0.4 points compared to January 2017 to 75.6%.

Philippine carrier Cebu Pacific Air, currently operates a fleet of 60 aircraft comprised of A320, A330, ATR 72-500 and ATR 72-600. Between 2018 and 2022, CEB expects delivery of 7 A321ceo, 32 A321neo, and 8 ATR 72-600. With this anticipated expansion, Cebu Pacific has decided to invest in pilot operations, to ensure that flight crew day to day operations, and their mission management are at the cutting edge. As a result they have selected the Aviobook Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution to digitise all their current flight dispatch documentation.
The Thales EFB will provide Cebu Pacific Air pilots a fully digitised solution that will increase their situational awareness and enable CEB to go paperless, reducing its cumulative aircraft fuel burn, and consequently its carbon emissions.
Following the acquisition of Aviovision by Thales in 2016, the two entities bring combined capabilities to EFB solutions for airlines with a broader range of operational applications, leveraging Thales’ expertise in avionics, airborne connectivity, data analytics, cybersecurity and ground support platforms.

Rockwell Collins’ ARINC vMUSE™ Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) was selected by Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, known as OMA, to provide enhanced flexibility of airport resources and passenger check-in at eight Mexican airports.
vMUSE optimizes existing airport infrastructure by seamlessly enabling multiple airlines to share common terminal facilities. For example, different airlines may share the same check-in areas and/or boarding gates. As the number of airlines serving an airport continues to expand, they will be able to access the CUPPS compliant vMUSE system without the need for complex infrastructure implementation costs.
vMUSE is currently operational at Mazatlan and Zihuatanejo airports. By 2019, the vMUSE system will be installed and operational at Acapulco, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Monterrey, Reynosa and San Luis Potosi airports.

Boeing has appointed Linda Mills as vice president of Communications for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Mills, an award-winning executive with 20 years of strategic communications experience, joins Boeing from Seattle-based Starbucks, where she served as vice president of Global Communications.
In her new role, Mills will work with a team of communications and marketing professionals responsible for global media relations, employee and executive communications, social media engagement, advertising, and other communications disciplines.
Mills will report to Phil Musser, senior vice president of Communications, and Kevin McAllister, president & CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

BAE Systems has been selected by Lockheed Martin to modernize head-up displays (HUD) on F-16 aircraft for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces, replacing the fleet’s analog system with advanced digital technology. The HUD, which sits directly in a pilot’s line of sight, is a see-through display that presents real-time, flight-critical information without obstructing his or her view of the outside world. BAE Systems will use its cutting-edge Digital Light Engine (DLE) technology to implement a HUD upgrade that integrates seamlessly into the F-16’s existing HUD space, requiring no changes to the aircraft, cabling, or computing. The advancement will remove the outdated cathode ray tube image source and replace it with a digital projector.
The fully digital system has the potential to reduce life-cycle costs by 20% and offers at least four times the reliability of legacy analog systems. The DLE HUD features high-resolution symbology that is viewable under any flight condition, and it is designed to accommodate future advancements in symbology and video.

Following an issue identified on a limited number of recently delivered Pratt & Whitney GTF engines affecting the High Pressure Compressor aft hub, Airbus and Pratt & Whitney are assessing the situation.
Pratt & Whitney, the engine manufacturer, is investigating the root cause of this new finding with the full support of Airbus. The efforts of both companies are directed to support customers and operators to minimize any disruption.
In line with standard airworthiness procedures, EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency has published an Emergency Airworthiness Directive. Airbus has informed its affected A320neo customers and operators. To date, 113 Pratt & Whitney powered A320neo family aircraft are flying with 18 customers.
