10 New Airline Routes Approved for China’s new Mega-Airport

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has approved 10 new airline routes from Beijing Daxing International Airport in September and October, and which will fly to cities including Moscow, Busan and Cairo. According to Reuters, five of the routes were proposed by Hainan Airlines unit Beijing-based Capital Airlines, one by China Southern Airlines subsidiary Xiamen Air, and four by China Eastern Airlines.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is due to become operational in September and by 2025 it will have the capacity to handle up to 72 million passengers per annum. The airport will be Beijing’s second international airport and will reduce pressure on Beijing Capital International Airport which is currently handling 100 million passengers per year.

Airlines including China Southern, China Eastern, Capital Airlines and China United Airlines will be relocated to the new airport, while carriers such as Air China Hainan Airlines and Grand China Air will stay at the old facility.

Rolls-Royce delivers 100th Trent XWB engine from Dahlewitz, Germany

Rolls-Royce has delivered the 100th Trent XWB engine assembled at the production line in Dahlewitz, Germany. The engine will be delivered to Airbus in Toulouse to power Lufthansa’s latest A350-900 aircraft. The Lufthansa Group, one of Rolls-Royce’s most important airline customers, has operated Trent engines since 2003 and has more than 60 Rolls-Royce powered widebody aircraft in service.

More than 1,700 Trent XWB engines in service and on order worldwide reflecting strong customer demand for the Airbus A350 XWB, and Rolls-Royce has continued to ramp up production, assembling Trent XWB engines in both Derby, UK and Dahlewitz, Germany. Together, both
production lines deliver the equivalent of one Trent XWB engine each working day of the week.

Finnair Traffic Performance in February 2019

In February, Finnair carried 995,100 passengers, 4.0% more than in the corresponding period of 2018. The overall capacity increased in February by 10.1% while Finnair's traffic increased by 4.3% compared to February 2018. The Passenger Load Factor decreased year-on-year by 4.5% points to 79.7%.

TTA & JHAS Sign Business Partnership Agreement

TTA – Tecno Tessile Adler (Adler Group) and JHAS have signed a partnership agreement for the design and production of aeronautical seats.

The agreement is a milestone to introduce new and innovative products in the aeronautical market. These include Economy, Premium, Business and First Class seats. Technology, innovative materials, high quality and tailor made products will follow the best Italian style and tradition as the union of the two companies.

JHAS is a company for Design and Production of seats and interiors for the aviation market. Its headquarters are located in Latina (Italy) with Design, Style, Certification and R&D departments with the most advanced instrumentations for analysis and simulations (FEM, 3D virtual simulator) and Prototype assembly line.

Brad Vieux Joins C&L Aerospace as Regional Sales Manager for Corporate Aircraft Parts

C&L Aerospace, a C&L Aviation Group company, announced that Brad Vieux has joined C&L Aerospace in the position of Regional Sales Manager for Corporate Aircraft covering the western region of the United States.

Vieux has over two decades of experience specializing in parts replacement, supply chain management, parts repairs, and overhaul needs for corporate aircraft including Challengers, Hawkers, Beechjets and more. His prior experience as VP of Business Development, Supply Chain & Int’l Relations for GlobalParts Group makes him exceedingly qualified to support C&L customers with their after-market parts and service needs.

Arriel 2H Now Ready for Service in China

Safran Helicopter Engines has obtained a Validation of Type Certification (VTC) from CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) for its Arriel 2H engine powering the Avicopter AC312E.

A VTC is based on the EASA type certificate (obtained in 2018) and confirms that an imported engine conforms with Chinese airworthiness standards. This Arriel variant was selected in 2015 to power this helicopter developed by AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, a subsidiary of Avic (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), and certified by EASA in April 2018. The AC312E made its maiden flight in July 2016.

Developed from the Arriel 2+, the 2H is one of the most powerful Arriel variants with a take-off power rating of 986 shp. The Arriel 2H will deliver excellent reliability, power and performance during demanding missions. 

Adecco’s Spanish cabin crew joins Finnair

Finnair and the Spanish recruitment and employment company Adecco have agreed that the cabin crew of approximately 60 people, serving on Finnair’s Barcelona and Madrid routes, will join Finnair’s payroll starting on April 1, 2019. The crew will continue to be based in Spain.

“This model better supports our goals, and creates possibilities to further develop the service experience on our Barcelona and Madrid routes,” says Eveliina Huurre, Vice President of
Inflight Experience at Finnair. “During the summer season we are adding one daily frequency on our Barcelona route, and our Finland-based crew will also serve on this route.”

Finnair’s Barcelona and Madrid routes have been operated with Finnair’s pilots and
subcontracted Adecco cabin crew since 2013. Finnair will lease an Airbus A321 aircraft from its oneworld partner Iberia for its Madrid route starting on April 1, 2019. The lease will last for a duration of 12 months and will cover a shortage of aircraft as Finnair continues to grow its operations.

With the leased aircraft, the flight deck crew comes from Iberia, while the cabin crew is Finnair’s. However, during the first operating month of the lease, the flights will be operated with Iberia’s cabin crew, and there will be one Finnair crew member on board to support the delivery of Finnair's customer service concept.

ATSG Appoints New President of its LGSTX Services Subsidiary

Air Transport Services Group has released that Jim Pradetto will succeed Gary Stover as President of LGSTX Services, a subsidiary of ATSG, effective with Stover’s retirement on April 12, 2019.

Pradetto is currently the Vice President of Operations of LGSTX Services, a position he has held since January 2017. Prior to that he served in a variety of management roles with Aviation Technical Services, Delta TechOps, AOG Tank Tigers, and TIMCO.

Wizz Air takes delivery of its first A321neo

Wizz Air has taken delivery of its first of 184 A321neo aircraft on order, at an event in Hamburg.

The new generation aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and features the widest single aisle cabin with 239 seats in a single class configuration and offers operators maximum flexibility, fuel efficiency and low operating costs.

Wizz Air is an all Airbus operator, with more than 100 A320 Family aircraft operating all around Europe with 261 more to be delivered. With 184 of the larger A321neo aircraft on order, Wizz Air is the largest Airbus customer worldwide of the type.

Aviation Capital Group Receives Additional US$200 Million Investment from Tokyo Century Corporation

Aircraft operating lessor Aviation Capital Group (ACG), has received an additional US$200 million investment from its minority shareholder, Tokyo Century Corporation.

Tokyo Century has held an investment in ACG since December 2017. With this additional investment, Tokyo Century’s ownership in ACG increases to 24.5%. Pacific Life will retain a controlling interest in ACG.
