Safran Aircraft Engines is to invest €36 million (US$41 million) in the creation of a 13,000 square meter plant, including 8,000 square meters of workshops, to make parts tor the LEAP turbofan engine from CMF International. CMF International is a 50/50 joint company between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE.
|
Construction is due to commence mid-June this year with completion in 2020. Initially the plant will have approximately 50 employees, which will rise to roughly 300 at full capacity, with parts production also commencing in 2020.
|

When operating at full speed in 2023, the plant will be able to produce 15,000 parts per year to support the LEAP's sustained production rate. CFM is set to deliver 1,800 engines in 2019, rising to 2,000 starting in 2020. The new-generation LEAP entered service in 2016 and powers more than 700 Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX commercial airliners, including 54 operated by Indian airlines.

Bombardier has announced the latest addition to its expanding service and support network – a dedicated Mobile Response Team (MRT) aircraft, based in Frankfurt, Germany. The Challenger 300 aircraft marked its entry-into-service by successfully completing its first mission, providing a European customer with efficient unscheduled maintenance support.
|
The strategically located Challenger 300 aircraft will deftly supplement the shipping of parts from Bombardier’s main European parts distribution hub at Frankfurt International Airport. Its 3,065-NM (5,646-km) range and impressive Mach 0.83 top speed capability will enhance the MRT’s reach and response times to a fleet size of more than 700 aircraft in Europe and the Middle East.

The Embraer Executive Jets Service Center in Sorocaba, Brazil, has performed the first complete renovation of a Legacy 600 business jet. The used aircraft was purchased by a South American customer who chose to customize the whole aircraft with a new interior, systems upgrades and a new paint scheme.
|
This Legacy 600, built in 2006, has received new seats, carpets, ceiling material, side panels as well as a new varnish hue for all the furniture. The galley received new flooring and the divan and curtains now have new fabrics. The service team also performed an overhaul of the landing gear and the installation of ADS-B Out (Automatic navigation and aircraft tracking data transmission technology), along with a GPS upgrade.

The company’s service center in Sorocaba started the Interior Shop implementation project in 2018 to expand the portfolio of services offered to Embraer Executive Jets’ customers. The Sorocaba Service Center is part of the TechCare platform, which offers the best integrated service and support solutions, from small repairs to fully customized services like this interior renovation, meeting customers’ highest standards.

The Alaska Airlines board of directors has elected John Ladner as vice president of flight operations for Alaska Airlines and the Horizon Air board of directors has elected Brooke Vatheuer as senior vice president of operations and planning for Horizon Air.
|
Beginning March 1, Ladner will formally lead Alaska's flight operations division, which includes line flying operations; flight operations quality assurance; flight standards; pilot training; crew planning and scheduling; flight operations engineering; flight operations technical; and dispatch. In his role, he also ensures compliance with all relevant government regulations.
|
Vatheuer begins her new role immediately. As the senior vice president of operations and planning for Horizon Air, she'll oversee operational performance, lead strategic planning, and continue improving processes and collaboration at Horizon Air. She'll also partner with leaders at Alaska to manage the Capacity Purchase Agreement Horizon Air has with Alaska Airlines.

GE Aviation has signed digital Network Operations agreements with AirAsia and additional undisclosed airlines. Implementation of Network Operations will take place this year for the airlines.
|

"This helps airlines recover from disruptions faster and more efficiently than ever and enables them to recoup substantial costs in the process."

AirAsia has signed a five-year contract for Network Operations Insights to provide a single view of disruption impacts on AirAsia's entire multi-hub network which carries close to 90 million passengers per year. This includes a Data Science project to help analyze the flight schedule and give insights into the delay cause of disruption. This opportunity further emphasizes AirAsia's continued trust in our products and services.

Täby Air Maintenance, TAM, has appointed Jari Järvelä as the new Hangar Operations Manager. Järvelä has a long and varied technical career, most recently as workshop manager for a major construction equipment dealer. Previously he has also worked as a helicopter mechanic, providing a thorough understanding of the aviation environment.

TAM is a major, independent aircraft support and maintenance company, based in Örebro, 200 km west of Stockholm, Sweden. Having been in operation since 1989, TAM has over the years accumulated a vast experience in general support, maintenance and overhaul of small to medium sized airliners and freighters, with a focus on the Saab 340/Saab 2000 family of regional aircraft. Having all the necessary approvals, including EASA Part 145 and FAA Repair Station, TAM is ideally suited to support any operation with tailor-made maintenance and overhaul as well as having the leading Saab 340 cargo conversion programme.

Aviation asset management company 3TOP Aviation Services (3TOP), specialising in airframe, engine and general commercial aviation aftermarket inventory support solutions, has acquired an Airbus A320‐200 (ex‐Shaheen MSN 1497) to support its global customer base.
|
The associated V2527-A5 engines will augment 3TOP’s expanding trading and leasing portfolio. The airframe will be disassembled in Tarmac, France and used to facilitate strategic support programs with 3TOP’s network of operator and OEM customers.

Flybondi, the first ultra low cost airline in Argentina, continues its expansion in the Region. After starting its international operation in December 2018 for Paraguay and Uruguay, it has just
started the administrative, contractual and regulatory process to start its operations in Brazil.
|
On Friday, February 15, the company received the authorization of legal operation from the aeronautical authority of the country, ANAC (National Agency of Civil Aviation), which is the first
step necessary to continue the process.
|
Flybondi has more than 60 routes granted to fly to Brazil and is in the analysis stage of which will be the first to start in the course of 2019. The first ultra low cost airline will seek to enter the Brazilian market to give the freedom to fly to thousands more people and always with the lowest rates in the market. Flybondi started flying in Argentina at the beginning of 2018 and already has an 8% market share.

Boeing and the U.S. Navy have received U.S. Department of Defense approval to offer the EA-18G Growler to Finland. Previously only Australia had been authorized to purchase the airborne electronic attack (AEA) aircraft.
|
Boeing and the Navy have offered the Growler and F/A-18 Super Hornet in a response to query issued by the Finnish Ministry of Defense as part of their HX fighter program procurement.
|
“All strike fighter aircraft rely on Growler escort to increase survivability during high-threat missions,” said Dan Gillian, Boeing vice president, F/A-18 and EA-18G programs. “The combination of the Super Hornet Block III and Growler would provide Finland with superior technological capability particularly suited to Finland’s HX mission requirements.”
